Tipping Mousekeeping

We make up "mousekeeping" envelopes. I have one of those die cut punches that I punch out Mickey's in the corner of the envelope.

We tip $1 per day/per person -- and we leave a tip each morning (not at the end of our stay) because a different housekeeper may clean on a day to day basis. On holiday's, I always tip a little more.

What's a few extra dollars each day to brighten someone else's day? Isn't Disney all about magic -- I want to be a part of that magic for somebody else -- even if they are "just doing their job".

I always put the dollars tip folded (long way) and put inside the little folded card they have for housekeeping telling us the name of our housekeeper. I have never ONCE had them not take it- they are sure to know it's for them when it's folded in their own card! I did the envelope thing one time but I had only done one and they took it the first day. LOL So that's how I got in the habit (many trips ago) to just fold the money and put it in their folded housekeeping card on top of the tv.

I tipped because I just wanted to... but I have to admit that paying $5 a day (4 in the room and the majority of the time we only needed fresh towels- we don't spend much time in our rooms when we're at WDW LOL) for NO extra magic at all was kind of a bummer. I had to make my own magic sending the kids down the stairs ahead of me and ME quick like arranging their stuffed animals and other Disney stuff in the window ledge. (in the evenings after our room had already been cleaned- so that is how I know they weren't going to do anything special, they already hadn't!)
No towel animals and not even arranging our "stuff" in any way, shape or form. Bummer.

Where on the website do you find the envelopes? I couldn't seem to find it.

When you are on the website, on the left there is a "Downloads" list, click on "For your Travel" you'll see the mousekeeping envelopes and Disney luggage tags and other stuff. HTH

we make our tip envelopes as a fun "get ready for Disney" activity for my 2 kids. We just decorate them using extra scrapbooking supplies that I have. We tip $5 per day for a family of 4. (and the $ is already in the envelopes, so they are all ready to go each day)

We tip $5/day for our family of 3. It doesn't matter how fancy or plain our hotel is, or where we are in the country, it's our standard amount. We also tip at least 20% in restaurants. My dh worked his way through college and grad school as a cook, so he knows how much the supplement is needed. But that is a topic to get flamed on in another board

You can also put the maids name on the envelope if available...many times we have had a small card left on the table with the name of the worker. I usually place the card next to the envelope on the pillow or nightstand. I also pre-make the envelopes and put the $$$ in so I know I have it! The kids always remember to put it out...one of their responsibilities on the trip. I never seal them tho, in case we feel the desire to add more, which we have felt was deserved many times I am happy to report!

That is sad. I am sorry to hear that they never made you any towel animals. How sweet of you to make them for your children yourself.

i hear ya... same here. we stay on property all the time (as you can see by my sig) i always tip. i know that they (most of them anyways) are hardworkers. they have a lot to put up with. if i come with a child - like my 2yo godson, who can make a big mess especially when eating his cheerios in the morning, or any other spills that he may incur. i usually tip extra then.

i always leave them in decorated envelopes (printed out from mouseforless.com), i'll add to it if it is a special trip for us. when we were there for our honeymoon, i put on it "honeymoon celebration", etc.

yet, i have NEVER gotten any towel animals, or any of the mousekeeping "magic" i have heard about. but i tip them based on their services, and for cleaning up any things that a toddler may leave behind...
it would just be nice to say that i am one of the ones that have experienced this specialties that they do.

but, i have heard that there are not many mousekeepers who know how to do the towel animals. then others say that the mousekeepers who do this usually have them all premade in a basket, and just put them out when they are finished cleaning a room. don't know if this is true or not though?

Aw thanks... I had to do something.. my kids saw other rooms with things arranged in the windows. In fact one of them we had to pass -oh like 500 times during our trip (LOL) had a towel monkey in the window HOLDING one of their stuffed animals- it was so cool! Unfortunately I'm not talented enough to do that but I can arrange our Disney stuff in the window and stuffed animals on the beds or table and such. LOL That I can do...

The ONLY time I have ever received a towel animal was one elephant on the bed (with our stuffed Mickey and Minnie sitting next to him) on the bed ONE time during our 12 day stay in 2003. We tipped $10 a day then... I was hoping for extra "magic" in the room for that- didn't get it but that one day. LOL

OH BTW, might I also add that we found some pill - tablet type of medicine of some sort- under one of the double beds on our 4th night there. It was not ours and I'm not sure what it was/what kind of medicine. It didn't say Tylenol or anything like that on it- it had some numbers but nothing I'm familiar with seeing ever before. So they obviously are not cleaning under the beds and my youngest, then 4yrs old, found it and gave it to me. She was playing on the floor between beds to watch tv also and a crayon rolled under the bed and she went to get it- found the tablet. What if she had been younger and the type to just put things like that in her mouth??? So beware... and check under the beds first thing. I sure will be. I told the front desk about it and gave them the pill- I'm not sure if they'll really do anything about it though. They said they'd tell housekeeping mgr about it. But I'm telling you- they obviously don't clean under the beds since it was obviously there from a previous guest and we'd been there 3 nights already at that point... that means between guests nor for 3 nights we were there were they cleaning under the beds. no telling what all might be under there. egads!

The police department I work for has some pretty skanky hotels in it's jurisdiction....some poor lady called last week cause her child had found a crack pipe under the bed! Of course said lady hadn't bothered to take it away from the child yet

So....needless to say...no matter where I am...I check under the beds

WOW! A crackpipe, huh? What is the world coming to? That woman must have been insane not to have snatched that thing out her childs hands IMMEDIATELY!

With regards to pills, this only proves more why they should be cleaning under the beds. A child could just as easy swallow the pill as they could give it to their parents. Very scary...especially considering how many different types of medication are the market. (narcotics, behavioral drugs, etc.) That could be dangerous indeed.

I never knew there where pre desighned disney envolopes for the mousekeepers. How cool are those, i learn something new everyday here. I made my on photo shope and thought i was being creative who knew people has been doin this for a long time. Alwasy great ideas here...thanks all

I always tip housekeeping several dollars in any hotel. I figure cleaning one bathroom is bad enough, having to clean many bathrooms every day makes it a job that they just can't be paid enough for!
