I have always tipped 5 bucks each day to the Mousekeepers. This trip, we will stay in a Nemo suite at AoA. It has 3 beds to make as opposed to the 2 beds in the regular rooms we have used in the past. And, 2 bathrooms.Do you think 5 bucks a day is still a fair tip? I am thinking no, I should tip more? How much??

I think that $5.00 a day is very reasonable ... even generous! We generally tip $5.00/day when we stay in a 1 BR villa (paying guests ... not DVC members) and that includes the clean up of the kitchen in addition to the rest of the villa. That being said we are estremely neat and always make sure that we have our stuff picked up and put away, the counters cleared in the kitchen, and the bed linens are straightened. We generally stay six nights and will, if the housekeeper has been especially nice (and they generally are!) we will up it to $10.00 on the last couple of days.

I guess it all depends on what the housekeeper has to do. I normally make our beds..just hate leaving them unmade when I leave. I tidy the vanity area. If I have a kitchenette, that is cleaned and tidy. Really, all housekeeping has to do is swipe the toilet area and vanity areas, refresh toiletries and put out new towels.
It's not as if they aren't getting paid to do what needs to be done. A tip is nice to get but I won't tip if the service doesn't warrant it....the housekeeper has to go above and beyond what I would expect to be done. And, many have. But..others have barely met expectations.

I think $5 is ok, that is what I usually leave too, unless my toddler made a HUGE mess then I leave $8-$10 LOL and a BIG thank you note LOL

You really want to steer the thread in this direction?

That's true! I think probably 7 dollars a day would be fair. That's probably what I'll do.
Off topic--I have been to Acton, ME. I went up there to show my dogs in the dog shows they have there every year! I love Maine!

I never even realized tipping was expected until coming to this board!

I'm not so sure it is expected, but it is a nice thing to do! If you decide to tip, tip each day. If you wait until the end of the week, you may be tipping someone who has never even cleaned your room!

I give them 15 dollars at the end of the stay, which is usually 5-7 days. Is that a good amount?

Any amount is good, but if you wait until the end of the stay, you may be tipping someone who has never cleaned your room. That is why I tip daily.

The majority of hotel guests do not tip the housekeepers. Particularly in tourist areas where hospitality employees are unionized. Anything you leave will be appreciated and I think $5 is more than fair. It all depends on how you feel.

I live on lower Mousam Lake and am a short jog up the street to the fairgrounds where they have the shows.

Nice little town, unless you blink and miss it. :wave2:
