I have not seen any guidelines on tipping the housekeeping staff.
We will be first time cruisers next year and really appreciate all the info that this forum provides. Thanks :boat:

I know this has been discussed before, and now with out the search function working it is hard to find.

Disney has recommended amounts. It is in our DCL book that we got from our TA. Perhaps someone here has the exact recommended amounts, but I suspect if you look in your info from Disney you will find what they recommend per person per day.

Thanks for the replies- I did not understand that Stateroom Hostess was housekeeping, but I see that now. :boat:

THis is from the DCL web site. Your stateroom Host/Hostess is housekeeping.

What about gratuities? (September 2004)
We'll make it easy. It is customary to give gratuities in recognition of service, which you will most likely be treated to in abundance aboard the ship. As a guideline, may we suggest the following:

Per Guest per cruise 3-Night 4-Night 7-Night
Dining Room Server 11.00 14.75 25.75
Dining Room Asst. Server 8.00 10.75 18.75
Dining Room Head Server 2.75 3.75 6.50
Stateroom Host/Hostess 10.75 14.50 25.25
Dining Manager Your Discretion
Room Service Your Discretion

For your convenience, a 15% gratuity is automatically added to bar, beverage, wine, and deck service tabs. All gratuities can be charged to your room charge.
At the Walt Disney World® Resort, 15% is the customary gratuity at restaurants and bars.

------------

So if there are 3 of you on a four night cruise your tips would be:
Server: 3*14.75 = 44.25
Asst. Server: 3*10.75 = 32.25
Head Server: 3*3.75 = 11.25
Stateroom: 3*14.50 = 43.50
Total: 131.25

So is stateroom host/hostess mouskeeping? If not, what is acceptable for a daily tip?

Dining Manager "Your Discretion" What is acceptable?

Thanks in advance, John

Dining manager - anything (including nothing I suppose) is "acceptable" - depends on what you feel is warranted.

We did not provide a daily tip for housekeeping, only the recommended amount, plus extra because Lidia was fantastic!

So some clarification here:

Your stateroom host(ess) is the person who cleans your cabin daily (often twice a day), provides you with towels, ice, soap, shampoo, etc., turns down your bed each evening and leaves chocolates on the pillow, and generally provides anything needed in your room. This person is tipped at the end of the cruise (we usually leave the tip in the room mid-day on the last full day of the cruise, and usually leave about 30% more than the "recommended" amount). There is no need to tip your statroom host(ess) daily.

Some more clarification. The head waiter caters to all special dietary needs as well as ensuring the the waitstaff are meeting your needs. We had a child who was allergic to wheat and dairy and my neice who is a vegatarian. So we used the head server, nightly and tipped accordingly. Hope this helps you. The link I gave you for the envelope is what we used to make our tip special at the end of the cruise. The envelopes were originally designed for mousekeeping at WDW. They can be used for the ship to make it more personal, but you give it at the end of the cruise. Sorry for the confusion.
