There is a guideline for standard tips for onboard personnel, but how do I know what is expected for excursion guides? We will be doing flightseeing in Alaska. These are very expensive excursions, so a standard tip of 20% (as I would give in a restaurant) seems a bit high to me, but I assume the pilots expect (and deserve) some gratuity. I don't want to stiff the pilots/guides but don't want to overtip either, as our budget is already stretched just to do these. Advice, please!

Private Guides, personal service IE your family and say pilots etc then up to 10% of cost.

DCL tours with other cruisers $5 pp unless you get a very personal service and $ 1/2 for a driver.

We did six private tours in Alaska including flights on planes and helicopters and coach yours the tips ranged from $20 to $50 and maybe for the family $$100.
