We just got back from a wonderful stay at the Poly. We absolutely love that place! We can't wait to go back, we're feeling a little blue now that we're back.
I was wondering how much do you tip the bellman? We used one and he loaded everything up, drove us to our car in the cart. How much do you guys normally tip? I'm not going to say the amount we tipped yet. I didn't think it was enough and my husband thought it was fine. I want to get some other people's opinions. Thank you!

It really depends. Rule of thumb is $1 to $2 per bag. Some people will tip a minimum of $5, even if they have one or two bags. It's really personal preference. I tend to base it on the size of the bag--$1 for the small carry-on and $2 or $3 for the larger, heavier bags. I usually retain possession of my laptop case! :)

We usually tip $1 per bag. In this case, I probably would have given him an extra $5 for going above and beyond....... I'm sure you will get answers of giving more than that & less. I think it is whatever you are comfortable with..... I wouldn't worry about it though.

Thank you:)
I know it's over and done with now, but I was just getting an idea for next time, which I hope is soon!;)

Two dollars for each normal sized suitcase, one dollar for smaller bags and carry ons. extra $5 to 10 for helping load my scooter into van.

We had two larger suitcases and a couple smaller duffle bags and toiletry bags. We tipped $7.

We just returned from our 3 night stay at the Poly and we tipped the bellman 5 bucks to deliver 2 bags to our room (room was not ready when we checked in).

This is what we usually do also, and then for going above and beyond a few dollars extra. I always have to give my hubby a little elbow nudge when he tries to close his wallet too, lol.

$5 bucks is standard for us, even with the golf cart ride, that's all we would have tipped.

We are a group of four adult women (my mom, her best friend, my sister, and me), so needless to say, we have a lot of bags. :scared1: The bellmen see us coming. I've never seen any run, but I've seen this. So we tip very well, I think. It's usually $2 for large bags and $1 for small ones, plus a little extra.

We are a family of 5 and always stay at the Poly.. I am suprised the bellman does'nt run when he see's us coming either!! We all have at least 2 bags a piece and heavy as we're all females with the exception of my hubby. We normally give him at least $2 per bag and a extra tip if he helps load the stuff into the vehicle for us. It's well worth the money not to have to do it ourselves!!

My husband is very generous also. I'd like to know what most
folks do about the "double handling." For instance, when you
get to the resort, someone takes your luggage. We tip them.
Then, say your room's not ready, and later you have to call
for your bags. So...you tip the next fellow who brings them up
to you.

We were at Universal where one bellman takes your bags into
the lobby where another bellman takes them and you to your
room.

Please help us with the protocol for handling these situations.
Do you just tip everyone? Or do you tip each one a little less
than normal?

I'd love to hear some other thoughts on this.

Thanks!

Last December when my parents and I checked-in on the Atrium Club our room was not ready, however we found that out after arriving up there because the Cast Members working up there did not answer the phone when they called to say we had arrived. Anyway when we found out our room was not ready we had the bellman leave our bags in the lounge since they said it would be 10-15 minutes for our room. So my Dad tipped him right then and there, because we did not want to tip another bellman later on because he offered to take our bags back down which would mean another one coming back up with them.

I've started half tipping - giving half when the bags are unloaded from the car to the cart and half when they are delivered to the room. The same on the outbound - half when they pick up, and half when they load the car. Sometimes we get the same guy doing both, and sometimes not. Sometimes, since the change to outsourced valets, the valets have been the unloaders and the bellman the one who delivers. We just feel it's more fair, since we don't know if it will be the same one or not.
