On the topic of tipping bell services what are folks opinions on the amount? I typically tip $5 when we drop off for Resort airline check in and $5 when we leave our bags when arriving early to a resort. We haven't used them, otherwise, but are puposely planning a split stay and would like them to transfer our bags. My thought was $20 for drop off and $20 for pickup.

Depends on the number of bags, the service preformed, and the distance to your room. Also RAC employees are outside contractors and not Disney employees, they are not part of bell services, same for car valets and car unloaders.

I would never tip the RAC employees, but if the OP used the Bell Services CM to take the luggage to the Resort Airline Check in area, then than is different I would tip the CM. I agree that the tip amount should be based on the number of bags and the size of the bag. More for a heavy large suit case $2 and less for a small bag $1.

I tip in the area of $2/bag that bell service handles. Always when they deliver to the room - not both ends of dropping off and having it brought up.

I do similar amounts for the RAC employees too. I consider it to be like an outside drop off at the airports where you also tip.

I'm never really sure what to do about tipping for baggage; I'll usually tip $1-$2/bag on the drop off and the delivery. Even if we fill the "cart" with bags I don't think the tip would be more than $10. If I dropped off my bags at bell services I wouldn't tip $20, seems excessive to me.

Last trip we had about 5 "bags" and I tipped a couple of dollars a bag. It ended up being $10.

The same person that unloaded the car, brought it into the room.

The industry standard is to tip at the destination of room on arrival and car on departure. IMO, that Disney has set this up as a 2 step process with different groups doesn't change that. Just like the industry standard is to tip valet on pickup, not drop off. But one should also look at the individual situation. How helpful is a given person, are the bags esp heavy, is it raining, how responsive are they. I personally don't want them messing with my things so I'll work it to avoid them if at all possible. I do feel it's inappropriate to ask to use their carts instead.

That's one of the reasons that car loading is done by bell services and car unloading was outsourced. It's all about the tips.

Floridian.

VGF is a different animal, The car unloader is a Disney employee but they are not allowed to take luggage to your room, they need to call bell services at the GF if one isn't at VGF. If bell services is at VGF, they can unload and take the luggage to your room. Again it's all about the tips and agreements between the union and Disney.

Well, I may have overestimated the tip a bit. We usually have 3 bags, 2 large and 1 carry on size. My thought on tipping more for the resort transfer was that there was more work involved with the transport but I would guess behind the scenes staff (driver) wouldn't get a share of the tip so why tip the person picking up more for something someone else is going to do.

Exactly. RAC totally gets a tip.
If I'm right on what RAC is (resort airline checkin?) years ago i remember checking my bags with my friend at the hotel and they mentioned that they were the airports employees not disneys

IMHO any person doing those jobs (RAC or Disney) gets tipped and tipped well by me....I usually have 3 or 4 bags and I tip RAC $20. I never use an unloader or bell services to go to my room, so never tipped them, but I would probably tip the same.....I did have to transfer rooms once, and tipped the Bell services guy well for his trouble.....really it depends on courtesy, and attitude with me, as to how I tip.
