Tipping at DL...

Monday's are crazy at my job! LOL

Anywhoo, I was reading the Fantasmic thread, and it made me wonder if tipping CM's is allowed at DL?

(Sorry if this has been posted a gazillion times)

I read how helpful the CM's are if you pay for PS, but I would want to tip on top of that, because that's how I tee-hee

(I worked on tips as a college student. Yay for Olive Garden.)

Also, how about tipping at counter service?

You sound like such a kind hearted person! You may tip your tour guides (I asked because at WDW they wouldn't accept our tips). You may tip your restaurant servers, the concierge, bell services, spa services, but no tipping at counter service.
(I have no idea about tipping Fantasmic CM's, but I'm thinking no. However a positive comment card filled out at City Hall would probably make their day!)

Aww, you're too sweet! I've just always felt that whatever you put out comes back to you....and when people go above and beyond, especially in today's society, (even in DL) I like to reward it...

We have done Fantasmic Seating twice (in the balcony) and both times my husband gave the young lady who gave us our drinks and very good service a tip. Both times they accepted it gladly, and I saw others tipping as well. They take very good care of you up on the balcony (have never done the riverside seatin before so I don't know about that one).

I would think tipping at the Fantasmic show would be okay. Reminds me of tipping at other shows where they serve drinks, like a comedy club. We always tip them, same idea I bet!

That is good to know. We are going in October, and we usually do counter service, although I have planned out several table service meals. When ever we have done a table service, we have always been fortunate enough to have been with someone who is paying. We want to try something that we dont always do at out trips, so I added some newbies for us.

I assume that tipping at table service is appropriate, am I correct??

Yes, all table service meals at DL would require a tip. And at Goofy's Kitchen in the Disneyland Hotel will add that gratuity right to your bill, which you pay before you ever sit down.

15% for decent service, 20% or beyond for really good service is the norm.

I don't want to be argumentative and I usually tip generously, but unless the restaurant specifies in writing that a gratuity will be automatically added, no tip is ever required. A tip is otherwise at the discretion of the guest, to reward good service.

Goofy's Kitchen INCLUDED the tip in the cost and told us not to tip. Same with a few other sit down places we did, the tip was automatically included. So be careful that you aren't double tipping.

You are right. However, I always put tipping is "required" when I post on the dis because some people are from countries where there is no tipping and therefore they don't really have a firm grasp of what tipping in the US is about. To me to tip someone who makes below minimum wage should be a requirement. And if you are a party of six or more, most places will automatically add a gratuity, generally 18%.

I only tip as requied I cant afford to tip every where else now I try to tip when I can. when im not straped. I am barely making it as it is. I will normaly leave a 5doller bill when we eat some where

for hotles and stuff I may leave something for the maid but this next trip after reading things I may just say dont come in my room.

Having put myself through college working at Red Robin, I always tip unless service was phenomenally bad (not just the kitchen's fault, but bad attitude on the server's part). If service was exceptional, I'll tip 20% rounded up to the next dollar (i.e., bill was $68. before tax, 20% = $13.60, round up to $14). If it was just ok, I'll tip 15%.

But I wish I'd thought about it at Fantasmic! We should have tipped our server. She was great.

I am with you Gail, I also worked as a waitress during college and I guess my tipping criteria reflects that! I tip for bad service if the server was at least friendly and appeared to be trying. Sometimes its for things you can't see, like a problem in the kitchen or being short staffed and having wait staff working several stations. I understand when people don't tip for lousy service, but I can never bring myself not to tip!

About tipping, I made these cute envelopes for tipping at table service. They have them on the DISigns side of the board, but they're all for WDW places, not one for DLR.

Sometimes you get a CM that just goes above and beyond. One time we bought one a light up rose because I did not know if tipping was ok.
