Tipping and "neatness"

We usually came back to the room so I'd leave a 2nd envelope for turndown. They would give us new towels, empty trash and turn down bed and leave chocolates. So my returning to the room gave them more work but gave me a chance to tip them.

We tip $5 per day, plus we leave all the spare change....it's a pain in the butt to take all that change. We are 2 adults, and we are pretty neat the first 2 days...it goes downhill after that. They do clean the room at least twice a day. We go back to the room in the afternoon after it has been cleaned to take quick showers and go back out, and out towels have been replaced when we return. When we come back from dinner our beds are turned down, and towel dolls in the bathrom. Everyday the sheets are changed too, so I think $5 per day is fair.

We make up "mousekeeping" envelopes. I have one of those die cut punches that I punch out Mickey's in the corner of the envelope.

We tip $1 per day/per person -- and we leave a tip each morning (not at the end of our stay) because a different housekeeper may clean on a day to day basis. On holiday's, I always tip a little more.

What's a few extra dollars each day to brighten someone else's day? Isn't Disney all about magic -- I want to be a part of that magic for somebody else -- even if they are "just doing their job".

Maybe it's just me, but I don't change my sheets at home every day. :confused3 Why would I think that mousekeeping would change them every day? Yes, if I'm staying more than a couple of days I would want to have fresh sheets every 2-3 days, but I think every day is a lot to expect. As for tipping, usually $5 per day for the 3 of us and we're pretty neat in the room.

I read somewhere that if you want clean sheets every day, just pull the sheets off the bed and leave them on the floor - just the way you do with towels if you want fresh ones. Makes sense to me!

Did you write a note that it was for the housekeeper? If not they won't take it off the table. On our trip in May we left the tip on the bathroom counter with a note saying "To Housekeeping" next to the little card that the maids leave in the rooms.

I didn't specify "to housekeeping" but I left a little note requesting additional towels (which I didn't get anyway) but the room was really clean, so we didn't complain. Maybe it was a language barrier :confused3

NOTE - this is not a thread about whether or not it is appropriate to tip housekeepers in hotels. All controversy-seekers, kettle-stirrers and devil's advocate players please direct your attention to the approximately 87 different refillable mug threads going at any one time. ;)

OH my gosh, that was just funnier than crap :rotfl: :rotfl: 87 threads . . :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ok, so I am about the same as you. The toiletries I leave out but they aren't just strewn about, there is an order to them. All clean clothes are in the drawer, dirty clothers are put in a bag or folded in the appropriate suitcases stacked neatly in the corner of the room. Usually where the "closet" area is.

Our beds can be a bit messy, (we have two boys after all) but not horrible. We also leave all the dirty towels in one pile in the bathtub.

We leave about 3-4 bucks a day and there are 4 of us in the room.

We have always had great mousekeeping! One time we came back from the parks and all the stuffed animals the kids sleep with were on the bed with Pal Mickey (we left him that day) and it was arranged like he was reading to them. Some of my kids favorite Disney moments are to go to our room and "see what's happened!" while we were gone. :earsboy:

We tip $1 per person a day- so it's $5 a day. Usually, when we first arrive we call housekeeping for extra towels, hangers, and bed rails and they arrive within an hour. :earsboy:

$1 per person per day
i like to bring little mouse keeping envelopes
i dont leave the room messy but its not perfect either
