Tip question for disney dining party of 6

We (2adults) have the Disney dining plan for our upcoming trip. My daughter (family of 4) is staying DVC without the dining plan. We are going to use 4 of our dining credits for 4 adult meals at Askershus--and pay out of pocket for the two little ones. Can we pay cash for the automatic 18 percent gratuity? Or does that automatically go on our magic band when they deduct the meal plan credits? I called Disney twice and both times got two completely different answers.

From my experience, you are given the choice once they bring the final check for you. It can be placed on a credit card, charged to a room (magic band), or by cash.

Tip is not automatically charged to your Magic Band. We choose to charge it to our room, but that is up to us. You certainly can pay cash
