Tip problem at Raglan Road

Just got back today! :cool1: I thought I spent enough time on these boards (I spend waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much, according to DH!), but apparently I was wrong. DS and I had ADRs at WCC for a late lunch on Saturday. Due to some unforeseen transportation problems, we didn't make it. We ended up at Pleasure Island and I had heard good things about Raglan Road here on the Dis, so we decided to check it out. My first question was whether or not they were on the DDP; they are.

The place was great, food was good (DS wasn't fond, but he shouldn't have ordered mussels). I didn't find out until the bill came, however, that I couldn't put the gratuity on the KTTW card. I left the room with only my room key and my park ticket! Thank goodness my 13 yo DS had his wallet on him so I could bum the $14 for the tip.

I think this situation could have been embarrassing and end up stiffing a perfectly good waitperson. When I asked why I couldn't put it on the card, I was told it is because the restaurant isn't owned by Disney. I can't be the only person this has happened to.

I don't know how to suggest a remedy...except to post to everyone thinking about going to tuck some cash or a credit card in their pocket before heading over there. This won't keep me from going back, but it was a hassle.

Thanks for the heads up!

Wow! I had no idea. We always leave everything in our room except our room key/card. Thanks for letting us know. It would be really embarrassing to find out after the fact.

Good to know -- thank you! I'm sure it's that way with most the restaurants at DTD. Only a few of them are Disney owned.

It sounds like they were able to remove the meal credits but not add a charge to the room for just the tip.

has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks for posting, it is a good tip to always tuck a bit of cash with you

WOW! I bet this happens at least 20% of the time, if not more! How terrible! Glad you had cash! We are going to go there and will have to remember to carry cash.

Jody is right. They could take the meal credits, but that is all. The meal was over $70, so the tip was significant.

They are not owned by Disney, so apparently you can't pay with a room card. They may set up to take dining credits but not resort charges. This may be something you might run into whenever you go to a restaurant that isn't owned or run by Disney.

I've been going to WDW a long time and I have learned to never go around with just my room key card. I will generally bring a regular credit card, some cash and my drivers license.

My reasoning is:
1) As you've found, the room key card isn't good for charging in every single place on WDW property.
2) If you lose your room key card, then what?
3) If you need to take a cab somewhere, you need cash. Don't laugh. I have been at TTC when all the monorails broke down and they were having trouble lining up buses to go to Epcot.
4) I have an annual pass, if something goes wrong with the park gates, they may want to see my ID to let me in. If I lose my annual pass, I need ID to get a new one. I also have a Pleasure Island AP. PI checks everyone's ID against the name on their pass.
5) You don't ever know when something funky will happen.

Very good information to know..thanks for sharing it:thumbsup2

Thanks - I hadn't thought of some of these things happening! DH still carries cash/credit card so I guess I was covered but I am going to tuck some cash away too.

Thanks for bringing this up "Tink-aholic" and I'm glad your DS has a little cash on him! :thumbsup2

The only restaurant owned by Disney at DTD is Cap'n Jack's. Another thing that I found interesting is that Wolfgang Pucks isn't owned by Wolfgang Puck.

That's weird, I know they take the kttw card b/c we went there 3 times last year in Oct, Nov, and Dec. All three times we paid with our KTTW card (through not on the ddp any of those times). We've never had a problem with using it.

I could be wrong but I was under the impression that the server had to run the tip when charging credits to the kttw card. So maybe it has to do with the server not getting the amount you wanted to tip beforehand. Just a thought.

OP here. I'm not sure I understand this. You used your card, but they wouldn't take mine? The server didn't know how much I would tip beforehand. He handed me the folder with the check and I asked if I could put the gratuity on the card. He told me that didn't work. :confused3

Thanks TDC Nala...I will follow your example from now on. We also have PAPs and I now know to bring more ID and cash with me. For the rest of our trip, I had two twenties tucked into my lanyard pouch and -- of course! -- didn't need to use them at all. We have had to take cabs before, so I will have it for that reason, too.

We used our KTTW card to pay for all our meals on property including raglan road. Never had a problem charging meals to our room. But like I said before we were NOT on any dining plans for any of our trips last year.

Just a guess here...

The location is not Disney owned. If you put the TIP on your room charge, how does the server get paid? Does Disney have to cut a check to the server? How long does that take?

Maybe putting the TIP on the room charge is possible but the servers don't want to hassle with it so they discourage it or say it can't be done. ::yes::

We have charged on our KTTW card at Raglan Road perhaps 5 times...maybe 6. Never a problem. We've charged using the DDP along with DDE as well as just DDE.

No experience in 2008 though. Perhaps it is more of a hassle for the servers this year to add the tip on DDP bills.:confused3

Yep, I used my KTTW card for dining and tip. DDE is taken here, too. I was not any dining plan. Maybe they do something different for dining plan gratuity. It could even be you had someone new that really didn't know how to the work the system so just told you they don't accept it. :confused3 It makes no sense to take your KTTW to charge credits but not gratuity. They have to be linked to Disney's system to have that ability.
