We made it back home! Married, tanned and still recovering
- If you aren't used to the heat, you probably won't need the dining plan. We're from northern Ontario and went in August - and wasted at least half of our food. We're planning a trip next year - possibly QS dining if anything, because all the kids wanted were ice cream, drinks and ice cream.
- OMG stay preferred if you are going to the All Star. We stayed not preferred at All Star Music and in the August heat the last thing you want is a 10 minute walk to the drink station!
- Our favorite Disney time was extended hours until 3am at Magic Kingdom. Awesome, not as hot, and D-E-A-D - we rode the Tea Cups 7 times in a row. Not sure WHY we did... but we did
- Buy a Disney mister when you get there. Best buy of the trip. The hole in them is big enough to put ice in and every drink place will give you a cup of ice!
- Go to parks on non magic hour days. Epcot everything had a 10 minute wait. Except Soarin. Of course.
- You can not imagine the heat. It took us 2 days to just find it bearable. The humidity is mad. It makes people grumpy. My 10 year old fell asleep on main street at the MK at Disney. My 12 year old developed an attitude where she tried to convince us to let her stay in the hotel room instead of going to Hollywood Studios. We sweated when we got off the plane and didn't stop. It hit us like a brick wall. Bring good sunglasses and prepare to sweat. Everyone is sweaty. I think the crowds enjoyed my vanilla scented deodorant.
- Online grocery delivery is cool but was unnecessary. When it is this hot, drinks don't stay cold and who wants to carry a bag of heavy water bottles around with you? Not us. We wasted 2 cases of water. But we did use some of the snacks for breakfasts while getting ready in the morning. And the case of beer we ordered was much enjoyed at the end of the day
- We never made a rope drop. Let your plans change. As soon as we realized what the heat did to our daughters we ended up at Typhoon Lagoon 3 times instead of once
And we slept in a lot and took advantage of the late night hours instead.
- Adult drinks are expensive. Very expensive. But very welcome when you're dealing with hot cranky kids who want piggy backs!
- If your kids haven't travelled a lot, maybe prepare them in advance for the amount of people who dress "European" at the water parks. My 12 year old spent at least half a day giggling at the men in Speedos. She hasn't seen that before - or the thong like non existent swimwear some of the women wear. We saw ****ies. And more. It was something I never thought of
Avert your eyes at the Summit Plummit.
- BEST TIP - I made a mini first aid kit for our bag. It had Wet Wipes, and a pill container including Robax, Tylenol, Advil, Immodium, Tums and allergy pills. It was the only thing we used every day. It also had 4 bandaids in it
- Call me crazy but we found the food costs CRAZY ... and some of the food just plain sucked. Our favorite meal was the Tusker House breakfast which was one of the only ones that fit what the bill should have been if we weren't on the dining plan.
- Don't fight. And if you do, let it go. My new husband is a "loser" - park pass, cell charger, his clip on sunglasses, my sunglasses, fastpasses... and at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter.
- Disneyquest is weird. Some neat things in there, but I felt it was a waste to visit.
- Don't build things up so much that you will be disappointed in anything. It is a different universe there. But there is a lot that isn't perfect - do not expect perfection, just some magic
