I live in Texas which has a similar climate to Florida which means Mosquitos with big teeth!!! A really good repellent to buy in the US is "OFF". Here is a great alternative that really works...take a tumble dryer sheet and rub it all over. This is especially good for kids if you dont want to put repellant on them, also little babies..just tuck one inside their stroller and it keeps them safe from bites. I own a wedding business and this is what our brides use to save them stinking of repellent and it really does work..just pop a couple of sheets in your bag and your good to go....every Florida/Texas mom carries them in her baby bag. Im sure these American mossies just love our rich british blood, its like they just wait for me to walk out the door!!!!!!!!! My hubby joked that when I was back in the UK last year they were on a diet!! Anyhoo...have a great trip x:goodvibes

Never had any trouble with them in Florida, bitten once in 20 trips, totalling about 50 weeks But last August drove upto Savannah/Tybee Island Georgia for the day, bitten 15 times in 1 day:scared1:

ouch! yeah they seem to be worse in the rainy hot summer months...they breed in lying water, puddles etc...Florida is normally only bad in the hot humid rainy months like August/September

Yikes I had not even considered bugs in our pre-planning discussions for July :headache:

We use a Boots insect repellant which has DEET in and it seems to keep them at bay. We also use a Boots aftersun cream that has an insect repellant in :)

Only time I have been bitten is when I forgot to put any stuff on and while I was waiting for the bus one evening at AKL I was eaten alive!

Thanks Tim have let OH know to add this to the shopping list :)

Never had a problem with them and they usually flock round me!! We buy the Boots deet repellent but I often forget to use it and still don't get bitten. :goodvibes

My hubby never gets bitten and I get devoured!!!!!!!! I guess I taste better:thumbsup2

If you are worried about getting bitten I would bring after bite or benadrly with you. I have lived here for 12 years and I reallythink there is something about our tender british skin that they just LOVE!

I've only been bitten twice - once at KSC and once at Fantasmic. I now use Boots repellant.

(I couldn't use the drier sheet solution as they irritate me and give me hay fever like symptoms.)

I know everyone has different opinions on "deet"products. I use them on myself and my kids. The stuff that our flying little friends carry is not worth the risk of getting sick. Tip for babies under 6 months.... Spray your stroller with repellent and buy a bug net.

WDW operates a comprehensive control program including relentless spraying, so you're less likely to be bitten whilst onsite than elsewhere in Central Florida. Dusk is when they hatch and are at their most active, so that's the key time to apply your chosen repellent. Avon Skin-So-Soft has long been suggested on these boards as an alternative to DEET.

Avon Skin so Soft moisturiser is EXCELLENT at keeping away mozzies! Avon sends it to the troops in afghanistan to help with the mozzies too as it comes in showergell, deodrant, moisturiser etc.

I have never had a problem with them in Florida (14+ trips now!) but when I went to Canaries it was awful - used skin so soft the next day and not one bite!!!
