If any of you are like me and have a major fear of spiders and are worried about riding Forbidden Journey because you have heard about the spider section in it, do not panic anymore.

I rode this about 6 or 7 times and with a little help from my friends and knee squeezing only opened my eyes once right in the eyes of the big one!

This is fool proof. In the first part you see Hagrid and then the dragon chases you. When you see the dragon breath fire on you shut your eyes because then the spider bit starts. You will hear them running around, you get 1 spit of water, Hermoine will then cast a spell and you will see a flash (even with eyes shut) and then there is 1 more spit of water. That is the signal for the end of the spider section. If you were last on your cart then you can open your eyes more or less immediately after the 2nd spit of spider juice but if you were the first then count about 3-4 seconds and then open them.

Not sure if people are as worried as I was, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to help some of you fellow arachnophobes out LOL :cool1:

Thanks, I hope the spiders don't scare DS, he rode Dinosaur last year and did ok, and that ride scares me a little. I'm just scared about DS and I getting motion sickness. We are going to take some motion sickness medicine, so I hope that helps.

While I absolutely agree with you, it wasn't enough for me. I could hear the clicking, even with my fingers in my ears, and that combined with the fact that I knew they were there, just did me in. I am happy that you got to enjoy, though! DH and the boys loved it and rode it many times. :thumbsup2

Forgive the psychology student. If you are afraid of spiders, I feel bad for you. Worse now. Because this is fascinating proof that phobias are an especial private little hell because they know no logic:

An antisocial tree that "whomps" people, Dragons who wish to burninate you, and phantoms that want to eat your soul - whatevs. :rolleyes1

Spiders (OK, very large spiders) that are kinda just... there - OH NO WHY WHY WHY??? :scared1:

Thank you!! :worship:
I didn't think I would be able to go Forbidden Journey on our next trip - but I will do as you say and get through it I believe! Thanks again

"And the spiders, they wanted me to tap dance, but I didn't want to tap dance!"

I <3 Ron! lol

During the opening weekend FJ kept shutting down periodically while we were waiting in line. My friend and I joked that it would be just our luck to break down face to face with one of the spiders...:rotfl2:...guess what it happened I was stuck face fo face hanging almost inverted by one of the hairy guys...suddenly our joking around was not so funny....did I MENTION I AM SCARED OF SPIDERS! Beware of the spitting ones while on FJ!

How real are the spiders? Are they like....3D spiders? Real models of giant spiders?

I didn't even know they spit on you! Yikes~!

Thank you for this. DH is trying to convince me to go on FJ but I am a huge Arachnaphobe. He went on it last trip but I opted out. But I am a huge HP fan so I do really want to go on it.

The acromantulas (spiders) are actual models. If I remember correctly, there are some smaller ones, and then Aragog (the big one) makes his appearance.

This thread discusses them as well. Warning: there is a photograph of one of them on post #3.

The cues are simple. When the dragons spits breath on you, close your eyes. Leave them closed until you hear Hermione say "watch out for the whomping willow"

You should be safe to open your eyes then. To 100% guarantee that you've missed them, wait a moment after hearing "whomping willow". When you feel like you've been knocked on your back, open your eyes. Then you'll only see the whomping willow as it "whomps" you into the Quidditch area.

And to get an idea, Aragog is a super-giant spider. He doesn't move, but the strobes make him look scarier than he is. The smaller spiders don't actually move, but they raise & lower. And yes they spit. It's just water, but still.

There was no avoiding the spiders on our last trip. The ride stalled RIGHT in front of one of them. We were left hanging there for at least 5 minutes. Totally ruined the ride for my poor kids.

DH really hates spiders, but found it fine. Its Shrek 4D and the spiders he gets twitchy with:scared1:

Not real fond of spiders but I think I can handle it. My thing is snakes...is the Basilisk or Nagini present at all?

I've given myself a black eye just "swatting" at a mosquito!
Now I'm sitting here getting chills just reading these posts!!!...and I have actually done FJ a coupla times!...Both of the girls are telling me I'm on the FJ menu again this Christmas! :scared1:

i was just getting up my nerve to ride this and now you mention spiders.

i have a scar from a bite from a brown recluse and absolutely hate spiders.

on a side note - how do you compare this ride to Spiderman or Simpsons?
