Hi again. Just wandering if anyone has it, and what they do to help it. DD13 has it. Can't stand a quiet room and has to wear her earphones to bed. she is going on a 4 day class trip in a couple of weeks and we need help. Our pharmasist did research and said " It could be caused by lack of zinc." :confused3 :confused3

I have it. I sleep with a box fan running. It drowns the ringing out. I will try the Zinc. I went to a Nose, Ears & Throat Dr. in Dec. He said tought luck not much you can do. :confused3

I have it for as long as I can remember. Infact I didn't know it was not normal untill I read an article about it. Kinda annoying too, especially camping or a place that can't recharge the batteries. Like MAKmom, I just find something to drown out the sound.

Is that what it's called? I hear a ringing all day, it takes me an hour or two to try and ignore it to get to bed. I used to think it was something outside but my fiance never hears it.

So we need an outside sound source?

I have had this for as long as i can remember. I seriously thought it was b/c of the couple of concerts I went to (you know--too high of decibals can cause hearing loss sort of thing).

It is soooo annoying. Do they know what physically causes it?

distraction and other noise really helps. Also, sometimes antihistamines can help, or meclazine. Might want to see an ENT (ear nose throat) doctor to rule out infection, virus, etc.

I have lived with this for over 40 years- as long as I can remember. Just part of life now! It can be severe and debilitating, but for most people it is just annoying and something you get used to.

Good luck!

I'm not a doc but I understand that it's the result of the tiny hairs in your cochlea (the seashell-shaped part of your inner ear) getting damaged by loud noise or some forms of illness.

There was actually a discusion about this over on the budget board.

It seems like a lot of people suffer from this, me included. Not much you can really do.

I have a white noise machine I use by my bed. It helps a lot when the ringing takes over. It has nature like sounds, maybe she could try something like that, I also have a relaxing cd that I play on my ipod that really helps if it is bothering me during the day.

The ringing seems to increase in volume after being around loud noises, at least for me.

Hi again. I guess on the Budget board there is the same subject.
One day at Walmart, the alarm went off, my DD13 said "see, thats what it sounds like." But thanks for all the replies, we are all praying that it will go away.

Hello, I'm the one who started the thread on the budget board.

Mine came about when I got a cold. My ear was plugged up and just started ringing. Made a doctors appointment and was told that it can happen due to a cold but I had no ear infections, etc., and everything else looked good.

Was also told the ringing may or may not go away and to take a decongestant/antihistimne until my cold was gone. Called back and told them I still have the ringing (but cold was gone) and they once again said that it probably won't go away then and their are no cures.

Where can you get the white noise machine? I normally sleep with the TV on and the timer set but I'm willing to try something else.

Yes the Concert was likely the cause for you. That is the first thing the DR asked about.

Check b12 levels & possibly get a thyroid panel.

And do not expect doctors to understand b12 deficiency, which.can adversely affect the entire body.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I recently started experiencing ear ringing. Looking for the solution, I found this thread. I wonder whether there are people hear who were lucky to get rid of tinnitus. Thanks in advance.
There's a fairly active tinnitus forum on reddit. It's a bleak picture. Like some other symptoms, tinnitus is caused by many different things--not one thing--so the cure for it can be varied. I have it in my left ear only stemming from ear problems as a result of COVID. I've had it for about 7 months now and it is not relenting whatsoever. My cousin has had hers for 3 years. It's important to get a workup to see if you can figure out the cause--sometimes it's related to hearing loss, sometimes related to issues with the ears such as wax buildup, eustachian tube dysfunction, and sometimes it's related to a nerve issue in the inner ear. Edited to add that certain medications can trigger it and some deficiencies can cause it.

vampire! lol but see somebody actually used the search function yeah!
I know 2 people who had it really bad.. STRESS and tramatic experience did it (the guy was part of a Covid crisis team at the start and working 100 plus hrs a week).

One went to theraphy was weeks gone.. took care of it.. wasnt really anything physical but stress induced.

I have it, but it stems from an injury, a punctured ear drum. It's very minor and mostly not noticeable or bothersome to me.

I always have it. What does it sound like for you guys? Mine is like the high pitched tea kettle sound. I am guessing it's from all those rock concerts I went to,

Mine is a low level hissssssss with an occasional tone. It's not that bad but always there. I do feel bad--some people have it so bad it effects their mental health.

I've had it for 10+ years, in my left ear.
I believe it was caused by a malfunctioning
earpod which suddenly increased to
100% at the worst possible time
when a loud commercial broke thru 😠.
I hear a metallic pulse sound constantly.
My DM went deaf from using a
Dictaphone & now has a very loud sound
of water rushing.
