Wednesday 27th December
I had a rough nights sleep with this head cold and woke up about 7am. Everyone else was still asleep so I went down to the lounge and had some breakfast and sat and watched the boats out on the 7 Seas lagoon. I went back to the room at around half 7 and DH was awake back I went and got him a coffee. DD was next to wake up and DS slept on until about half 8.
We were collecting the car today and I asked Lou-Ann if she would call Alamo to come and collect us. They arranged a pick up time of 10am and we went down to wait for them. The driver was collecting us and another person, who turned out to be a guy from New York with a real attitude. The driver politely asked him where he was from and when the guy told him he added you got a problem with that which was totally unnecessary. We got to the Alamo office next to the Hess petrol Station by MK parking payment booths, and Mr Personality sprinted in in front of us. There was already a line of about 6 people waiting which made DH & I smile. The kids and I sat down to wait and watched a sing a long Disney movie that had us Hi Hoing with the best of them.
It was soon our turn and as we had a 7 seater booked I asked if there was any chance of getting one with a DVD player. The guy said it would be a $260 upgrade for the week so I said not to bother. Guess what - when we got the car it was a brand new - only 95 miles on the clock - Chevy Uplander with automatic everything and a DVD player.
DS was most impressed with the electric sliding passenger doors and proceeded to drive us all made opening and closing them at every opportunity. It was a lovely car and we are going to try and get one in the summer. While we were oohing and ahhing over the car I noticed that the traffic was at a standstill getting into the MK and the Alamo guy told us that this was the 3rd day in a row that they had closed the park.
We could taste freedom and set off for Ice and the Gaylord Palms getting there just before 11am. As we set off we saw a deer standing by the side of the road. He looked as if he was going to try and run across (I hope he didnt otherwise we would be going home on the front of someones bumper.) We soon got to the Gaylord and here was about a 5 minute wait to get in and once we collected our coats we went into see the Ice sculptures.
I loved the ducks on a pond scene, the life size deer, the cat and the large Angel. They were amazing and well worth seeing - it was very cold though (even with the coats) and we were relieved when the kids finished on the ice slides and we got back out into the warmth.
We bought some half price Christmas decorations and by the time we were ready to leave the line to get in was all the way out of the convention centre and into the car park. Id say anyone joining the line would have a couple of hours to wait before they got in.
Next we went to the atrium for a coffee (this place is massive) and an ice-cream for the kids. Then it was time for ice-skating. The kids have been really looking forward to this. We waited about 15 minutes to get out skates then we were off. I havent skated for about 30 years and although its like riding a bike (you dont forget) my legs werent strong enough and my calf muscles really started to ache after a while so I didnt spent too long on the ice. DD was quite good considering it was her first time and even though she fell over a few times she got the hang of it and said it was the best part of the holiday for her.
Poor old DS has no real co-ordination and spent the entire time making his way around clinging onto the rail for dear life If youve seen the movie Bambi youll get the idea. He still said he liked it although he was a bit upset that he couldnt do it properly.
The kids hadnt eaten much so when we had finished we set off in the direction of a McDonalds for DS (he still needs 9 out of the 20 Yu-Gi-Oh cards that come with a happy meal.) We stopped at the McDs near Old Town on the 192 and managed to get some of the 9 and from there headed to Super Target. We had a good look round and got some bargains but still no Nintendo DS Lite. We went from Target to Wal-Mart but they didnt have any either.
We were close to the LBV Factory outlets so we called in and they was a Disney Tent Sale I got excited at the though of all those bargains but most of the stuff was rubbish so we didnt get anything. DH got a t-shirt at the Nike Store and I got DS some long sleeved tops in Old Navy for $4.99 each, which was a great bargain.
We could put it off no longer and we had to go to Golden Corral for DS. He ate his fill of pasta and steak and its probably the first proper meal he has eaten in two weeks. He finished off with a slice of chocolate cake and pronounced himself happy.
It was dark when we left so we headed off to Celebration. The houses that were decorated looked lovely and the kids were delighted to see snow on Market Street and had a fantastic time playing in it. We grabbed a couple of coffees and sat on the rockers cheers Mike Jones this was your drink
It was 7 oclock and the snow started, there was loads of kids running, jumping and generally having fun - DS and DD got soaked in the foam but they had the best time. Celebration looked lovely at night and we are glad we came as it was another highlight of the holiday.
As we were leaving I spotted a shop selling lovely Christmas ornaments and wanted to get something for Lou-Ann in concierge as she has been so nice to us. I got her a lovely Santa and I hope she likes it.
We left Celebration just after 8pm and headed back to the Contemporary, we got back just in time to watch Wishes for the last time from the balcony as we are moving to VWL tomorrow. We chatted for a while after Wishes and it was lights out some time after 10pm.
Weather It was 20 degrees cooler today so jeans, t-shirt and a zip top.
