Amazon has couple set of tinker toys on sale - a junior construction set for $5 and a classic jumbo set for $9.99 ..and I was wondering if those are good for kids 5 years old? or are they meant for younger kids? My dd is invited to couple birthday parties for two boys in her class..and I was wondering if those will make good gift? They will be turning 5. Thanks!

I would say they're great for ages 5-10 at least. My boys are 3, 6, 8, and 10 and all of them except the 3yo enjoy playing with them. :thumbsup2

The boys in my daycare are receiving Tinker Toys this year from us. They are 2 & 3 and one of them has been addicted to them at home for months now. I figured that even though he has a set at home, he can always use more.

I enjoy giving gifts that help the kids use their imagination.

I think 5 is still a perfect age for them.

Hmm - my kids have had a set since they were teeny. The oldest is now 10 - played with them maybe twice - but she's a girl, so I saved them for my son and figured he'd play with them. He's opened the carton maybe 2-3 times now is 6 years. I don't know - mine just weren't interested in them at all.

If you watched that Travel Channel special about the creation of "Soarin'" you'd know that the Imagineer took his tinker toys and worked out the design with them! I'm guessing he was at least in his 50s. :lmao:
