I am looking for some info and thought mabey you could help.
We are planning on going to AB for a quick road trip :cool1:
...drumheller
...calgary
...banff
...jasper
and then come home :moped: ...no more time than that

We onlly have one day in Calgary and our mission is to see the Calgary Zoo..
Can you recommend a nice hotel that is close by there but on a main road easy to find...like in the 80.00-100.00 range?

Anyone else have any recommendations for our other stops??
Banff and Jasper are soooo expensive :earseek: --we need to find something on the lower end but not in a crappy place-know what I mean!
We won't be camping at all so that is out.

We had considered renting a rv but it is reallllly pricey as well-go figure :)
I always knew disney was the best bargain!

grover,

The Calgary Zoo is very close to downtown. The entrance is on Memorial Drive which leads right into downtown. I guess the closest would be the Delta but that might be a little pricey. I would say any hotel downtown would be in a 10 minute radius of the zoo. I will take a look when I get some more time (just out the door here in a few mins) and get you some names.

We don't have to be right next to the zoo..a bit of a drive is okay..just don't want to be on the other end of the city!
What about by the airport? I know the Greenwood Inn here in Wpg is nice..and I think there is one by the airport in Calgary..is that far from the zoo?
Thanks for your help!

The Greenwood Inn is close to the airport yes, but there's tons of hotels that look nicer than that one in this area. It's about a 15 minute drive from most airport hotels to the zoo so you can go with those too. The Sandman is nice as well as the Residence Inn, Hilton Garden Inn. There's a new Days Inn on Barlow Trail that is in a good location, that might be a good bet.

Hi from Cowtown......have you tried priceline; you could get a great deal . I always use them no matter where we travel. I think there about 6 hotels for our airport zone, and I checked a website for current bids which are around $40 US. :wave2:

I know in Jasper there is something that is called 'Approved Accomodation', which have homeowners renting out rooms or basement suites. For the most part they are cheaper than the hotels and the ones I've stayed in are clean and a better bang for your buck than the overpriced hotels. I don't know the website, but the Jasper Chamber of Commerce can point you in the right direction.

I had the same idea...try www.tug2.net Scroll down to tthe classifieds...Lots of condo owners will rent their week at a fraction of the cost...HTH!

I stayed at the Regency Suites last summer for the Stampede. It is not far at all from the zoo. Although it was nothing glamorous (no hidden mickeys :sad1: ) it suited our needs. the suite I stayed in had a full kitchen, living room, and a bedroom. I believe the couch folded out into a bed, too. I also didn't pay more than $90 for it off the internet (can't remember which site). If you keep looking until early June for deals on the internet, you should be able to get a great price. Good-luck.

I would second the vote for trying Priceline, I used them to get great deals on hotels in both Calgary and Canmore. I paid about $40 US a night, and got really nice hotels both tmes. The hotel in Calgary is quite close to the zoo, about 5 min drive. I think it was a holiday Inn or Best Western on MacLeod Dr. I think it was a very good deal on both places and was very happy with the whole trip.

Well I think we may go with the Delta downtown..the rates are not to bad 119.00...boy it is hard to find a hotel when you don't have a big website like this full of info dedicated to the area you are visiting!!
The only down side is you have to pay for parking!

Has anyone stayed at the Bow View Motor Lodge in Banff?

How about the Bear Country Lodge in Canmore??

Or the Best Western Green Gables Inn in Canmore?? Only 129.00 a night there..for gov employee rate..

Thanks for all your help!
Vanessa :)

Oppps one more...is anyone familiar with the Rundle Mountain Lodge in Canmore?

Many places are already booked in Banff/Canmore for the summer!
