Timing to request renting points for Dec 04

I'm interested in potentially renting points for BWV for a WDW visit before our Dec 18th cruise, but I'm not sure when I should begin looking into renting points. I don't want to ask too early, and tie up someone's points while we're looking at options, but I don't want to wait so long that I probably won't be able to rent the points.

I'm thinking along the lines of needing 36 points, to rent 2 studios for 2 nights. My other option is staying at a value resort, since it's just 2 nights, but the Boardwalk was so neat when we visited last, that if the price is halfway close, it would be so much better than staying at pop century!

Any help will be appreciated.

You want to get standard view studios. Due to the fact that they require less points, standard view reservations generally go very quickly. December is also a popular month for DVC members as the points requirements are low and all the Christmas decorations and events are in full swing. To be guaranteed what you want you should probably consider renting points and securing a reservation 11 months in advance (that would be next week for your dates). If you wait a little while you may still be able to get a reservation but it might be preferred view (and would require 48 points). I know standard view ressies for early December dates are pretty much gone, but I have no experience with later December dates. I wouldn't wait though.

Thanks for the info. So basically, I need to put the request out there now, looking to actually book it in the next week or so. The 11 month booking will mean that the points actually have to come from someone who's home resort is BW, right?

One other stupid question. Are these transactions taxed, and if so, how is it done? In other words, if I buy 36 points at $12 a point, is it $432 or $432 + tax?
