Timing of ME luggage

How closely does ME worry about the timing of the luggage from the plane to the resort? We are currently at AKV July 3-4 but may come down on the 2nd if we get better airfares and possibly stay off-site that night. My question is if I tag my bags to AKV and come in on the 2nd will they just go to AKV an evening earlier and then we can take ME the next morning (after going back to the airport)? :confused3

If I understand your question correctly, you would need to reschedule your ME for a night earlier so they know to expect your bags. You provide an associated flight number. If they do not have the flight number they do not know to get the bags. The few times I have used them I have had to wait 2 hours after I got to the hotel for my bags to arrive. The other option is to gather the bags yourself and bring them on the ME yourself.

I think your question is whether or not you can send your bags, via ME, to the AKL a day before you actually check in there. Is this correct?
I believe that the answer to that question is no. You would need to be checked in at the resort, when your bags are delivered.

I believe you need an on-site ressie before you can make a DME ressie.

This is correct. You can not use ME for you or your luggage unless you are staying that day at an onsite resort. So you luggage can not go ahead of you the day before your stay. You will need to take your luggage to the offsite hotel and then find your own transportation from the hotel to WDW the next day.

I have the onsite reservation for the 3rd/4th. If I can get a cheaper fare on the 2nd, could the following be done:
Me -fly in on 2nd, stay at airport hotel, 3rd take ME to AKV
Bags - Fly in on 2nd with ME tags on (with our flight info for our flight), go to AKV, sit in bell services overnight and wait for me to arrive at AKV on 3rd?

Don't think so. They do not even pick up the bags after a certain hour at night (not sure what time you would arrive). Now the question is, what happens to the bags that are not picked up at night...do they hold them until the next day? If so, then your bags might be in holding until you check in with the magical express the next day. I would call either the Hyatt (I'm assuming that is the hotel you are referring to) or DME.

The more I read this the more I thought about it. It's actually and interesting question. How exactly does ME know to pick up a bag. I'm assuming that there is an automated bag scanner at the airport and any bag with a ME tag gets scanned and directed to an ME staging area rather then going to the luggage claim area. ME personnel would then need to either scan or read the luggage tag to know which resort to take it to...

I don't think there was flight information or a date on the ME tag so what would prevent ME from picking up the bag when it arrived, no matter that it was a day early. Once the bag arrived at the resort Bell Services would be confused because they had a bag without a corresponding room, but I doubt they would send it anywhere. You could then mention at check in that your bag arrived early and have bell services bring it to your room at that point.

OP, you might want to post this question over on the transportation thread. They have people who might understand the process better.

I have my tags in front of me, and there is a date on them.

Two things have to match in the system - your checkin day and your flight day. If they don't match, they won't book ME for you. If you use the wrong ME tags (i.e. ones for a flight you aren't on), when they scan them they will be told that those bags don't belong for that day - you'll risk them just getting left behind at the airport. I'm sure some CMs would throw them on the transport, but they don't have to.

We've been there. You are dealing with your own luggage and transportation if you do anything other than get off the flight and onto ME on the same day. Or back the other direction, btw.

If you are staying at the aiport hotel just get your bags from baggage claim for the night, then the next day take them with you to ME and they will put them under the bus that you take to your resort.

You always have the option of getting your own bags at baggage claim for the ME ride to your resort.

This is exactly right. You can still use ME the next day but you will have to have luggage in hand. I don't think I would risk my luggage being carted off the night before at MCO and transported to Disney waiting on me the next day. When we use ME, we are always worrying that are luggage is lost as sometimes it takes several hours for our luggage to arrive...
