Oh thanks again to all---I so appreciate all of your time and help. I've never heard of spin pins, interesting!
I wonder about this too! We will be going in November and while I don't need professional photos, I would like nice photos
I don't wear makeup at home, so can probably get away with that, but am thinking of trying some of the foundations/powders recommended for oily/combo skin types. I think a translucent setting powder after sunscreen might work well. But I'm probably going to just wear a sun hat in the parks and not need sunscreen on most of my face, just body, so perhaps just the powder?
Also, I have long curly hair that does NOT do well in humidity. (I grew up in Florida... I know the horrors.) I've been researching keratin hair treatments to keep my hair either straight or straight-wavy, and frizz-free. Then rain showers, sweat etc. wouldn't be any issue, and getting ready wouldn't involve much with my hair. Just air dry and go!!! What a dreamI think I'll try one this summer, and if it goes well, get another in early November...
As for undergarment type things, you might try spandex, high-waisted underwear under whatever you plan to wear. I used to always wear semi high-waisted boyshorts under sundresses if I was bloated, on my period etc. in the summers. And though it's not quite the same as shapewear, finding the right kind will be smoothing and flattering.
ETA: if the keratin treatment turns out to be a bust, I will probably either opt for french braids on park days (dear partner will have to learn too) or maybe cut my hair to shoulder length.
I just wanted to comment that I also have long super curly hair (my avatar picture is documentation of the last time I decided to spend the 5 or so hours it takes to straighten it). My hair has also never reacted well to blow drying so my normal practice is to let it air dry, and at the parks tie it up after 30 minutes when it becomes annoying. Lately though I've been conditioner washing and product setting it at night, then putting it all at the top of my head (while still wet) in a high ponytail with a tie that won't crink, then letting it dry in my sleep and having it ready to wear down in the morning. My plan is to do this next disney trip, as it cuts down on humidity frizz and does not require any additional work other than the two minutes of adding product/scrunching/finger combing that is part of any curly hair process.
OMG, don't get me started on thinning hair. It's crazy how much I've always shed, but it feels like I am losing hair in droves now that I've reached my mid-thirties. The bonus with curly hair is it rarely looks thin, but you always know it's half a thick as it used to be! I need to go get a haircut and give up some length.First, lmao @ 5 or so hours. I feel you.
I have a similar process. Curly haired girls unite!Always shower at night, so I'd pile my hair into a bun on top of my head, tie it off and go to sleep. Perfect curls the next day - voluminous, minimal frizz. Add coconut oil to my dry *** ends and be on my way
But sometimes this gives me headaches! Even with loose buns/ponytails, I barely last more than a couple of hours
it's why I switched to spin pins for buns; I need like 6 or 8 to really keep the hair in place, but it evenly distributes (or eliminates) pressure. And it's not like I was doing tight styles before, either. I *think* maybe my scalp is suddenly sensitive to a freaking ponytail/bun because there's a whole lot more head/neck/shoulder tension from computer work, and any extra tension (however minimal) exacerbates it. Low and loose side ponies have been my go-to recently. Or maybe I'm just aging and my hair is thinning, which I assumed wouldn't happen for many more years
Anyway, it is still an excellent routine, and it totally works in Florida.
On the other side of the states - the first time I visited NV was a real treat. I'd step out of the shower, my curls would instantly coil and stay that way, and my hair looked like I was fresh out of the salon. Semi-arid and dry regions, how I love what they do for my hair![]()
For clothes, I cannot say enough good things about Jockey slip shorts/skimmies for under sundresses and skirts. They are breathable, cool and prevent friction. I am a huge fan of Old Navy compression capris. They are high waisted and fit a bit snug. It prevents the jiggle but does not feel like sausage casing. This is probably TMI, but I find a padded bra helps prevent sweat stains under the bust area on super hot days.
Makeup advice may seem complicated, but it's not that involved. Sunscreen, BB cream (Neutrogena skin enhancer), bare minerals foundation, waterproof mascara, and Maybelline Baby Lips in a bright color.
For hair, I scrunch in some anti-frizz cream and air dry. Then I put it up with spin pins--they are like bobby pins on steroids.
Minnie, when in August are you going? We are doing the very last week. I loved your post--I can relate to alot of it. I have shoulder-length blonde hair, non-curly, but I realllly don't like it up. However, with the heat and humidity and all, I don't want it down my neck and in the way, etc. I want to check out spin pins, where do you get them?
You know, I currently own ONE pair of jean capri shorts---I need to fix that situation! I
I really don't enjoy the idea of any undergarment, but picture-wise, I know I will thank myself for that later. I'm wondering if alot of women/girls go for an all-in-one bodysuit at all??? I've had issues where the Spanx I was wearing, just kind of rolled down, and that is no fun.
Yes: I'm with you; I think it IS all about how you stand for a picture. Ha, I'm sure there ARE any number of links and threads and posts for "Looking better in pictures". My thing is, I don't want to spend all this money to go down to Florida and after the fact, be grossed out by the pictures. That's why I did this post in the first place. I see any number of cute women/girls at Disney, and they managed to do it![]()
Thanks again for the post, I like your style!!
I love tunics with a cute pair of shorts and sandals. The tunic hides any tummy and prevents the muffin top, plus some of them are long enough they're more like a short little sundress. We went last year in late August and they were perfect, not to tight, made from a cotton blend like a t-shirt, which let them breathe and dry quickly. Also they come in just about any color you could think of, I found them on Amazon and would buy different colors that reminded me of Disney characters, light blue for Cinderella, yellow for Belle, etc.. it was my lighter way of Disney Bounding. As for hair, I tossed it up and pinned into curls, I can't braid, but we're going again this August and I learned how to do a pull thru braid so I might try that, anyway it goes if you have long hair, find a cute easy up style. Onto make-up I really don't use it, but I also know what you mean about the pictures. I used my normal eyeliner, and then Lipsense because it's a lip stain and it really does stay on lips for the entire day, unless you eat something really greasy, but then I still only have to re-apply once. I was super happy with my pictures from last year, and can't wait for this August!
I sure do I got them on Amazon. I bought 2 different types, the first has thicker straps like a tank top, the second has thin straps.Do you have a link to the tunics you bought on Amazon? I love sundresses but love tunics too as they hide muffin top.
