Time off during program?

Hi,

My kids are applying to the College Program, and we already know that they shouldn't ask anything about time off during their interviews, but we would like to take a family cruise during the time they'd be at WDW - do the CP participants get to take a week off during their 8 month stint?

CP's are required to have full availability during their program. Once they start they will have access to the cast member site where they can request dates off and will either get approved or denied. If they are denied they can speak with their manager to see if there is anything they can do for them. Another option is to give away shifts but that cannot be done until the schedule is out for the week they need off so that would be touch and go. I know in my location our managers would only honor days off if we had them approved online and if not we were responsible for finding someone to take our shifts.

As soon as they can request the days off have them try, I wouldn't book it until they have the days approved though! Good Luck!

It would be from December 10th (the cruise would leave New Orleans on the 11th) through the 18th, so it would be just BEFORE the holiday season. Well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, and if we have to reschedule the cruise, it would be totally worth it to have them in the program.

Pretty sure that's actually in the midst of the holiday season. So that might not work.

Probably not going to happEn cause it's so many days. That is definitely Holiday season for Disney. We start in November. And October is Halloween. Fall has a lot of blackout time for CPs to request off. Maybe you could all go visit them as a vacation and if they don't get all days off you can have time to yourselves also depends if they are in a role where there are lots of people available. My boyfriend was in Quick Service food and worked 60 hrs or more during Jan-feb(Christmas/winter) holiday and summer/spring break. If they do get it approved print it out. They changed mine the week before and said I didn't ask for it off. Lame.

Yeah that's def not happening sorry! Disney will be swamped from Early to mid November all the way until Feb honestly.

Not only can they request the days off, but they can also trade and give away shifts. last summer I was able to get 12 days off in a row for a family trip and my management team never denied me the time off. As long as the cast member takes responsibility for the shifts, there shouldn't be a problem. However, I wouldn't bring it up in the initial interview, I would wait until they had been accepted.

It should be noted that the Disneyland Resort differs slightly from the Walt Disney World Resort in this sense. Disney College Program Participants at the Disneyland Resort are accorded a fair amount of seniority for the duration of their programmes, which makes it easier for them to obtain time off.

Contrarily, at the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney College Program Participants are accorded no seniority, which makes it much harder for them to obtain time off. It's still certainly possible, but not as likely.

My daughter has her phone interview today, and she won't be mentioning any time off . We talked about it as a family, and if she is accepted to the Fall Advantage program, we'll reschedule the cruise for January - can't take a family vacation without our girl!
