The ironic thing is that Tebow is being bullied himself into join the cause.

He is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

I hope he does choose to support the cause, however, if he doesn't, I am not going to jump to homophobe and that he doesn't think bullied children are important.

I see what he does for children here in Denver. Most of it he does under the radar so as not to draw attention to himself.

I do not feel he's being bullied, he's a hugely popular figure and having him asked to make a video is a natural response to that. Others at that level of fame have been asked and many have done them, so I don't see some kind of sinister or "gotcha" motive in the request. At least I would really hope that wasn't the point of the request.

I think it's kinda odd to have a petition to have a specific person support a cause. Just ask them. If they say no- why petition them? I mean, now if he does it, there's doubt as to whether he believes what he's saying. If someone believes in a cause they don't have to be petitioned do they?

From the organizer of the petition:

"It would really be an amazing thing for Tebow and the Broncos to do to really say 'We may have differences on abortion and gay marriage, but stopping kids from killing themselves is an issue we can all get behind,'" petition organizer and Broncos fan Andy Szekeres told USA Today.

Why wouldn't he agree with these sentiments?

I seriously doubt he is a homophobe. I do not think most Christians are homophobes. I think they are extremes in all groups.
Biblically, gluttony is a sin. Do you (general) think Tebow is a "fataphobe"? Ever see a fat Christian? They probably have a problem with food on a daily basis--it is part of their lifestyle--focusing on food and overeating. Personally, for me picking things out of the Good Book to call people out is wrong. I think all people fall into some scripture that speaks against what they do, believe, how they live, whatever. I think a favorite of Christians to point out is homosexually, because, in general, they aren't "guilty of it." But when they point that finger, 3 more fingers are certainly pointing back at them.

ETA: or worry...I'm a person who struggles with worry. The Bible speaks against it to. It is a daily thing for me. Some days I worry more than others, some nights I worry and can't sleep. I really think people have to look at their own selves and see we can read that book and find things that step on our toes, no matter what. If it is only about what WE think, then OK, it does not matter what that Book says anyway. If I thought what the Bible says does not matter than I could worry all I wanted without trying to stop. I'm darn good at it.

I know what you're sayin' or at least I think I do based on my belief that you're a good soul. I'm thinkin' that Bible has a message for all who seek some sort of validation in their own beliefs.

I don't think he is either. However, you know there is a small group people out there who are going to proclaim that if he does not bow to their pressure and join this one particular cause.

Well, because of the Super Bowl commercial, he's already assumed to hold all the same positions that the organization who produced the commercial does. So if he doesn't do the "it's gets better" spot I don't think all that many people will be surprised.

As for me, if he doesn't do it it will be disappointing, but I haven't seen spots from other people whose work I appreciate. Hasn't stopped me from liking their music, acting, or athletic performances. I don't use litmus tests before I decide to watch TV, read, see a movie, a game,or listen to music.

Within the last few months the Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants have all made videos for the It Gets Better campaign to benefit the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. These teams have spoken out against bullying and hatred in our society. The Giants became the first professional sports team to make a video for the campaign and numerous other teams have stepped-up to help inform LGBT youth that it gets better and help avert suicide.

We are urging the Denver Broncos to set an example for the rest of the Colorado teams by making an "It Gets Better" video. The It Gets Better campaign started last fall following the alarming number of gay teen suicides around the country. The "It Gets Better Project" is a website and organization dedicated to helping "young people who are lesbian, gay, bi or transsexual see how love and happiness can be a reality in their future." We hope the Broncos will continue fostering its impressive record of community service by taking it to a new level.

Well, maybe he'll do it. I guess he'll weigh it all and see if and what it all stands for and decide.
I have a DD who was bullied so if it was ME, I'd probably do it (though DD is not a lesbian) and two of my dearest friends ARE lesbians so I know a tiny bit of ridicule and harassment they have faced. *probably because I have not clicked on the link and read everything yet.
If it meant you could save ONE child from being bullied for any reason or kept them from committing suicide for any reason, I would do it.

The problem is that I think the organization is probably specifically picking on him because of his beliefs. Never mind...I just read what's right above my post. I think the team should do it.

Thing is, Tebow and the Broncos weren't expected to win--at least not by anyone who really follows football. New England was supposed to win, so it's not a big deal.

The fun of this has been that they were defying all odds and winning.
