Tikiman has been silenced.

Shame that this is halting.

Another poster who was great about posting some insider info and often discussed discounts and timelines was harassed not by Disney but by posters a year or so ago and he too has backed off.

Sorry to see you stop as I often read your info in a FYI mode.
Sadly, no good deed goes unpunished. Tikiman's work has always been helpful, and very much appreciated.

There is enough mis-information to go around many Disney resorts. I stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter three weeks ago and I asked the person at the front desk what the hours were of the person who entertains each week at POR-Riverside. The nice but teriibly ignorant CM at the front desk didn't know there was someone who provided live entertainment at Riverside. I informed her that yes there was, and he'd been doing it for a while. I finally remembered his name (Bob Jackson), and the nice CM brought over her associate who told me that yes there was someone at Riverside but that Bob Jackson definitely wasn't his name.

All I could do was stare at them both and sigh.

Yeah, the amount of CM misinformation is ridiculous. When I was there in December, a cast member at the Poly told me that Tokelau would have full kitchens. Another DVC rep laughed at the idea that the Poly DVC would be all studios (excepting bungalows), and told me not to believe what I read online.

I have also found Steve's info to be very reliable, definitely more reliable than much of what I heard from cast members. Sure, sometimes dates and plans change, but it's refreshing (and helpful!) to know what the plans are at any given point of time.

This is a tragedy. The public is the one who loses here. Steve's services benefited everyone. I hope this is an over swing from Disney and they can get things worked out. The worst part about this is the lack of compassion from fellow Disers. This is how Blackie was run off and seems to be how a Steve will be treated here as well. He has been a vital member of our community and should be treated as such. Mahalo Tikiman.

That is so sad. I'm very disappointed :(. His website and information for the Poly is the best that you can find anywhere. I'm actually kind of mad about this !

 Tikiman you are a legend and I truly hope you reconsider. I hope you know how many people appreciate all the time you have put in over the years and your dedication to the poly. I'm so sad to hear this....sigh

Well to the CMs credit, Bob Jackson is often just referred to as "YeHaa Bob", which is his stage name at River Roost. It's not surprising they didn't know Bob Jackson was the same person.

Again lots of inaccurate speculation here and people should stop guessing. I'll leave that there.

I get lots of information but don't report anything until it's official or nearly so and I am told I can. It just changes too much and can cause upset with the resort's clientele that shouldn't have occurred.

Tikiman's site has some of the best info about the Poly and I hope he continues to maintain that. But I also know that he has let out some things before Disney was ready or the decision wasn't final. It sounds from his statement that they may have had enough of that and yes I heard of some the outright anger about it for a couple of years.

You are speculating the inaccuracy of these statements, so are you not guessing yourself and thereby not adhering to your own demands?

Disney should be very thankful for all that Tikiman has done on his site and all the useful information he has provided. It is because of him that so many want to stay at the Polynesian. Trying to find out information from Disney is sometimes frustrating and conflicting. I have had 3 different CM's tell me 3 different things about the same thing. I love sites like Tikiman's they are where I go first to plan my trips.
I have never found anything on Tikiman's site to turn out to be wrong.

This is really sad. So instead of getting insightful, real info about the goings-on at the Poly we get to be spoon-fed schlocky non-news like you see on the Disney Parks Blog? I'm sorry this happened, Steve. The amount of work you have put into your website and FB page are so truly appreciated. Because of you, we have been able to make informed decisions about where we want to spend our money on our very frequent WDW vacations and how we can best enjoy the offerings at the Poly. I find it funny that Disney wants to be the one informing their guests when most of the time they tell us nothing or give us the wrong information. I wish they had just left you alone :(

A lot of the CM's at Disney are "PURPLE FOLDERS"! You know, the kids from the college program that are only there for a few months to gain work experience and college credits. Most aren't Disney nuts like us. They may not know anything about the lore and foundation of the resort or park they work in. Just sayin to expect inexperience in that regard.

Disney nuts like us or not. They are CMs and rep the Disney resort. Therefor they should be well trained enough to know simple info like the person you quoted had asked them for.

This reminds me of when I was at the Poly back in 2009. I knew that there was a water parade but didn't know the specifics of it at the time, like what time it would be coming by the Poly that night or if it was every night. I asked at the Poly front desk (permanent CMs) and they had no clue. I tried the concierge desk as well and got the same blank stares. My friend and I finally gave up.

I seriously have to wonder how much this comes from the posted pool hours sign that was on Tikimans's site. I mean seriously, people were calling and complaining about the hours on a Pool sign - for a pool that hasn't even opened. It's one thing to go and have issues and make a complaint, it's another to call and complain about a sign on a Pool that isn't complete for a trip you aren't taking for 6 months.

I appreciate Tikimans's telling us the pool was going to be renovated last year. I booked a great rate and Disney waited 4 months to notify me. I'd been pretty mad if it wasn't for Tikiman.

These kids are only there a few months. There is going to be some disparity on how quickly some learn before they leave. Some will take pride in their work others will not. There are a ton of youtube videos of how great Disney treated them well and an bunch that said it sucked. Sorry if I have a low expectation of their training due to their short time there. I don't mean to offend.

That being said the "intern" that did the SEEDS tour guide last summer was awesome, helpful, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. My wife loved it and it was only $20.

I have started typing a response a few times now and haven't found the words. But this post truly captures my feelings too except that I think Disney believes the uninformed guests will, for the most part, just accept the lack of information and change their circumstances on the fly and this is preferred by them over guests who may have read one of Steve's posts and didn't follow up on any changes to the information then made themselves a nuisance to CMs. You just know this has happened and it is certainly not Steve's fault. Thanks again, Steve, for helping us plan our Poly vacations over the years. The FB pics you and your readers have posted both pre, during and post construction have sustained me over the past year plus as has the info you have shared.

As I said earlier, there are people like Steve who do things for the good of the guest (as well as it's probably been a super fun hobby) and try to give the best and most accurate info allowable by Disney.

Yet, there are others out there who are for themselves and are using Disney against itself and ruining things the rest of us have to use.

It just goes to show that if you know more than Disney knows of their own projects, you yourself will be "re-imagined".

Mr. Tikiman, I want to sincerly thank you for all you have done. This UNPAID job must have taken monumental hours of time and energy over the years, and you did this for STRANGERS. I hope you only hear the comments of affections and gratitude and block out the noise. It is just noise. I hope that someday, someone pays it forward to you and your family for the time you spent helping others. Mahalo.

I'm sorry - the post you are referencing used the word rumor, perhaps, at least 10 times if not more?

I may be missing something, however to me - that indicates it is heresay and the author was acknowledging that.

You know for certain this was not ever on the plate?

Actually Tikiman flat out says he thinks to accommodate DVC and other changes the entire resort would be torn down. Clearly he was wrong.

"As much as every time I have asked about DVC and they have told me they did not have the land to do it and it would not happen, this time DVC seemed to be what everyone was mentioning.
After all I heard I came up with my theory on what I see when I put the pieces together and some at Disney agree with me.

DVC will go in but to do this and to give the resort the attention it needs they will not just take down the GCH (which is needed anyway) but they will take down the resort and build a new one with the same theme."

With all due respect..... I'm pretty sure the quote you are referencing states within it that he is acknowledging the fact that he is stating his "own theory"? I see nothing here but someone tossing out an idea based on ideas that they have heard? Nothing in this article suggests direct reporting from Disney. It's his blog.... He should be allowed to share his ideas and viewpoints without us considering them law.

Sure but he also says "many at Disney agree" with his theory. To many that comes across as confirmation.

Listen don't get me wrong, love Tikiman's passion and he has tons of great info on his site. But to say he has always been right is absurd. This was a clear case where he was off the mark.
