Tigers in Orlando???

Hi

I was just wondering if there is anywhere in or around orlando that you can go and see tigers and pet them etc... I suppose abit like gatorland (with out the petting of course). Its just that they are my wifes favourite animal and it would jus top her holiday mikey and tigers all in two weeks not sure we will be able to handle it all though. LOL

There are tigers at AK, but you can't pet them. Not sure if I would want to anyway!

There may be some at Busch Gardens, not totally sure but to get anywhere near them would either be not allowed or very dangerous I would think.

Johnny is right there are two types of tigers at BG , they are behind glass though so you can't pet them. A couple of years ago there was a tiger at Old Town that you could have your photo taken with although he was HEAVILY sedated and it all looked rated cruel JMO.

Well, I wouldn't want to be invloved with anything where you could 'pet' a wild animal. I draw the line at AK / BG where the animals at least have some kind of existence, albeit a false one.

One of the saddest sites for me is at Sea World where I've seen a massive walrus swimming around his enclousre in the same direction. Even my kids noticed it was doing the exact same thing 18 months before. It's so sad to see animals cooped up like this. No animal deserves to be sedated so they can be used as a petting toy for the public.

Sorry, it just makes me so cross. I'll get off my high horse now.

Exactly what I was thinking - I am glad someone else made that point. And the writer of the link I posted did not mention the animals being sedated at all so I dont know where that idea came from.

Personally I would love to stroke a tiger but I would be too scared to get anywhere near one. I do stand and watch them for ages at AK and to see them at Animal Exotics would be amazing but just a bit too real and frightening.

I think the confusion arose from the 'and pet them etc' comment, I don't think the intention was to start and "an animal welfare" debate.

Tiger's are my favourite animal, I have a brilliant picture of one at home, I would love to see one in real life too.

Slightly off thread I know but there is a zoo in Hertfordshire called Paradise Wildlife Park where you can feed a tiger. You go with a big cat keeper, have a talk about the tigers and then help to feed them through the bars of their sleeping quarters. They usually stand up on their hind legs and are amazing - very tall! My husband fed them a while ago and really enjoyed it. You have to be careful to watch out for when they wee though - that stuff can really travel

Just an aside........tiger dung is supposed to be great stuff for keeping cats off your flower beds. Bit difficult to get hold of though, I'd imagine!

I used to buy tiger poo from my local wildlife park, it really does the trick!

Tiger's are my favourite animal, I have a brilliant picture of one at home, I would love to see one in real life too.

can i just add, that at the west midlands safari park which is not far from us they have white tigers? They are magnificent and you can park up and watch them, my kids were fascinated and they are in a large enclosure so have the freedom to do what they want (I hate zoos too to whoever posted that previously) They just lie there and watch the cars go by, bit like there telly i suppose, well worth a trip down, and you could pop by for a coffee too

If we did this for every thread that moved slightly off subject there would be very few on the Trip Planning Forum.
