tie-dye shirt question for the pros

I've bought everything but the soda ash to make our shirts. I checked at 2 different Wal-Marts and meijers. When I ask the managers, they look at me like I have three heads.

Is there a brand name? Maybe if I ask for it by the brand name, I might get lucky. I don't have access to a Micheals or hobby lobby as the closest hobby store is over an hour away so that is going to make it difficult to get it there.

Any suggestions/help will be greatly appreciated!

I don't know where to buy just soda ash. Our Wal Mart had a tie dye kit that contained the dye and the soda ash.

Ditto to the PP...I got a tie dye kit from Michael's that had the dye, soda ash, and rubber bands. There was plenty of all the materials and the color stayed bright after many washings.

I also did a spray version of tie dye shirts. I used the dye in the squirt bottle cans. I did not use soda ash on these shirts and they faded only minimally.

MMMMMMM If I can't find soda ash, how much fading do you think there will be if I dye the shirts and let them set a couple of days before rinsing them?

The type of dye I bought at Wal-Mart is Dylon if that matters. It says on the directions on the back to use salt?? Does that sound right?

I bought the Tulip brand Soda Ash at Michaels. It was hanging right along with all the Tulip Dye kits and single colors in the aisle. The box is the size of one of the single colors and I think it may have been the same price.
