Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

You can see that the dark color powder is thicker than the lighter colors, the yellow is a little more thicker than the pink the jar is more pass the middle, like 3/4. I don't have a full one to show you, same with other colors, like orange, red, the lighter colors like pink, lavander are more like the one in the picture, like a garlic powder or something like that ;) to give you and idea.

So do you get better results if you soak the shirts in the soda ash and then dye when they're damp OR if you soak the shirts, air dry and then dye them? I just want my colors to start out bright and stay bright! Thanks! :goodvibes

Soak the shirts in the soda ash, the have to be wet, damp, not dripping but damp. I normally take them out of the water, wring them with my hands, let them sit for a couple of hours and then dye. :thumbsup2

Well, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get them done before we go to WDW next weekend, but I did it! Seventeen shirts! (Even though only 5 of us are going to WDW, other family and friends has put in requests for shirts.) Although this time I did not do all of them by myself, I had two helpers. I am happy with how they turned out.

This is just a sampling. Couldn't fit all 17 in a picture!!

wow, that's a really tiny picture...wonder why it is so small...I'll have to try to make it bigger.

I just wanted to post about the importance of starting with cold water, then moving to warm, then hot, when rinsing the dye out of the shirts.

It was very obvious when I was doing the Halloween shirts, that different colors rinse out at different temps. When I did the initial rinse in cold, lots of black and green came out. When the water moved to warm, you could see the orange coming out. And with hot water, the purple.

I hadn't used purple in a while, and I forgot just how much purple dye rinses out!! A LOT!!! I kept rinsing and rinsing, and that purple just kept coming out!! The water never did run clear, I just got tired of rinsing!! lol

Your shirts look amazing Goofywalker!! Way to go.

Thanks for the tip on the water, I always use the same temp, warm almost cold and cold to wash. I rinse them on the sink first and then to the WM.

Here a colorful one pic of the day.

We had our tie dye party for the swim team this evening. Dye was being tracked all over the YMCA, including bathroom mirrors. Dye got there, because boys were filling the dye bottles in there. Most dye colors ran out, while a few bottles of black and brown seemed to be hanging around at the end. The coach in charge bought about seven or eight kits that had 10 to 12 colors in it, estimated to dye 12 to 24 shirts. We also used the pan and rack idea some mentioned here. :thumbsup2 It will be interesting to see all the shirts. There are still 30 extra shirts to dye. The coach and I have decided to finish these on Wednesday. I tried the spider fold for the first time. I chose the colors purple, green and orange. Inspired by the recent shirts on this website. I'll let you know how my spider design turned out. :hippie:

I know there has been a discussion on here regarding hard water. There must be something to that, because the white in these shirts has a purple/pink cast to it. I rinsed out the shirts as I usually do, at least I thought so. My point being our water softener is not working. And I'm to help the swim coach do 30 more shirts. :scared1:

Oh, maybe, my water is not hard here, but jacquard has a solution for that. Also sometimes the color combination make others.
