Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

So true, the dharma last better than the kits, and with the primary colors you make the secondary colors and so on. the only thing I don't like is their shipping, but oh well. They aren't the 'fancy' expensive dyes that some people said they were, but you won't know until you try.
Thanks for your tips iwannabeprincess.

Thanks, your lines are so precise, I just wanted to know what you used in case my Mickey heads didn't come out very good. We're leaving tomorrow and we've got 10 shirts waiting to be rinsed today. I'll post pics when we get back.

You're welcome! Hope they turn super. Just be careful with the pen, don't squezee or push hard. Is like painting the mona lisa lol for me, you have to be very careful. Good Luck and show us when ya'll get back!

Hi to pixie girl! Just found this post and I have been reading since 10:00 a.m. this morning. We are going to DW in December and I would love to make Christmas spiral shirts for MVMCP. Do you recommend certain shades of red and green dyes? I saw the red and green ones posted earlier and I really liked the lime green. Just wanted to be sure before I order dye. Thanks for your post. Your shirts look incredible. I hope ours turn out that well.

Hi there, thank you :lovestruc

OK the colors I used for the christmas shirt are:

Red (primary) is call fushcia red

Bright Green

The red runs like fuschia, so I add a little of yellow to make it red, just a little.

Now the lime green I used the primary yellow (Lemon Yellow) and some bright green. I just mixed some green like 1/4 of tea spoon and 1/2 yellow, and filled the bottle half way, then tested on a rag, if you see it too green add more yellow or viceversa. It sounds complicated but is not. However is important to make the dye you need because you might do get the same result if you add more or less of one color.

Make senses? :guilty:

Let me know if that make sense to you, if not I can maybe show you how some other way.

Alright, here some halloween shirts, it was hard to control the black but I used the urea and the other stuff from dharma along with the detergent and it help me a lot.
I wanted to take pics outdoors but the weather was just not on my side today.

"Happy Halloweeeenn" Booo to you.... :wizard:

I LOVE these shirts! We are going to WDW in 6 days. I bought stuff tonight to tie dye shirts for halloween. How did you do the spider pattern on the back of the shirt.

Thanks!

Hi, thanks!

Well, you alternate your colors, e.i. Orange, purple, black in the middle of the folds, then yellow, green, then black again and so on...
When you work with black you have to be careful when you wash them because the black will travel and expand to the white or lighter color areas, but is fun. The results can be pretty cool on one shirt and not so much on the other, all depends in how is folded and if you get the dye real good in there, sometimes Im scare to put too much that would take over the other colors, that's why some parts have more black.

;)

I just noticed that my DDs tee is 5% spandex. Ack! Just how much of a difference will it make if I use it? Otherwise I gotta run around to who knows where to find another short sleeved 100% cotton tee - and I don't know if I'll have the time for that!

I've been following along this thread for a long time and I'm pretty sure there have been others along the way that have successfully dyed shirts with spandex. Maybe try a search of this thread to see if there are some examples.

Hey! It's me again! I'm the one making the lime green and red shirts for MVMCP. I've spiraled my shirt and I've placed my rubber bands on. How do you alternate colors? Do you pattern red, green... so on? Sorry for the dumb question. I'm so excited about these and I really want them to turn out as well as yours. Thanks! Sorry to be a pest!

Hi, ok is already in the bun shape, with the rubber bands they should look like pizza slices, ok, you put one color, let say red, then the green, and so on..

You're welcome! make sure you wring your shirt as much as you can. stick the bottle in the folds really good for less white. Good Luck! :cheer2:

Thanks for all the inspiration! I jumped in a made 3 shirts for our trip on Saturday! I was so worried that my mickey heads would not turn out good but they turned out awesome! Some of my colors kind of blended together and made kind of a brown color but they still look great. My husband even asked where is shirt was. I guess I will be trying to whip up a few more before our trip.
