Tickets - Paper or plastic?

Okay -- approaching paranoia. I bought MVMCP tickets through Disney ($190) and they arrived -- they're like plastic credit cards - looks like good quality.

THEN my $1,100 10-day tickets arrived from mapleleaftickets.com and they're just heavy paper (with a magnetic strip). Is there a way to just double check if these are valid? Since allearsnet.com recommends them, I'm sure the tickets are fine -- but it would help my peace of mind.

Paper tickets are still valid. When you buy tix at the gate itself, they are paper instead of plastic. I prefer plastic so if it gets wet, I don't have to worry about it, but paper is fine.

yea they are real. i dont know why they dont give people with annual passes, seasonal or even 10 day passes platic tickets but for special events they use the plastic ones.

The tickets are NOT PAPER.
They are made of the the same flexible plastic material as a FedEx envelope.
They are incredibly durable. Water won't hurt them at all.

I think it depends on where you're getting tickets from that determine if they're paper or if they're that FedEx-like material you described...because I have my old tickets and I can assure you...they are VERY much paper and water DOES hurt them.

On our third night @ WDW ;ast August I accidentally washed all of our paper tickets. I took the dried out mess to the ticked agent at the park and they quickly made new ones for us.


Don't worry about the paper. Just make sure you photcopy the back of them in case you lose them .

If you are staying onsite you can have your ticket transferred to your room key which is hard plastic. We did this last year with our 10 day - no exp. tickets. Just makes me feel better to have plastic somehow.

Thanks, everyone. I hadn't seen the question answered before. They are paper, though. I'll be getting waterproof holders for them, but my copies are already made.

The paper is pretty tough. Our APs from '04 were that paper-esque material, and they survived quite well. They're thinner and more convienent to carry around, I thought.

One tip: paper or plastic, doesn't matter...don't put the tickets in the same pocket as your cell phone. Guy in front of me at the ticket window did that and it wiped his ticket out. They just reissued it real quick, but pretty inconvienent. We had a similar thing happen with our hotel keys on a weekend stay once. (Not at Disney, but the magnetic keys.)

I have the paper AP and it looks as good at the end of the year as it did when I got it. It is very sturdy.

The paper tickets are very easy to replace. If it is an AP they have your name and address so you would need to show ID. For the plastic and paper MYW tickets make a copy of the backs so they can be replaced if lost.

1. they really aren't paper (even thought they look like paper) it is tyvex and is much stronger.

2. The advice of not putting them next to your cell phone is a great one but remember don't think turning off your cell phone will make a diference, it doesn't. Keep your tickets away from your cell phone totally.

Only Disney itself has the tickets on plastic cards; authorized ticket resellers like Maple Leaf and TicketMania, and the little off-site places in Orlando shopping malls, have the Tyvec tickets.

They are only paper on the outside. In between two thin layers of paper is a mylar substrate that's tougher than the plastic tickets.

Actually I believe they are mylar.

On my third AP, and I have to tell you..those puppies have held up wonderfully!!! One had about 16 days on it, last years had 28 days on it, and the one I have now has 10 on it, and looking at 6 more days on it. Don't worry about them, they wear just fine.

How old are these tickets? I don't know how long Disney has been using Tyvec, but some of the older tickets were definitely just pasteboard, and some of the current Pleasure Island passes seem like plain pasteboard, too. After all, PI passes don't have to last long, so why bother printing them on Tyvec when pasteboard is so much cheaper?

But my APs from 2001 and 2004 are definitely Tyvec, as are all of the old Park Hoppers that I have from 1998 to present.

Could you post a few pics of your damaged tickets for us?
