Hey guys I am trying to purchase my tickets for my upcoming trip and I have run into a slight problem. There is three people going on this trip and only two of them are FL Residents. We were going to try and do two separate transactions so we would buy two of the tickets with the FL resident discount and then after that do another transaction with only getting the one non FL resident ticket. However I do not believe that will work anymore because we are all staying in one hotel room and we need all of our fastpasses to work for everyone. Any help?

Do not buy the tickets in conjunction with the resort room.
Book "room-only" for the resort. Separate transaction.

Then, order the tickets.
You can then use the "two different transactions" plan you described.

FP+ will work just fine if you are all linked to the same MyDisneyExperience account.
(Either all ON the same account, or multiple accounts linked as "Friends and Family.")

you can do two transactions and then at MDE link the tickets and work the fastpasses. You will have no problem

@Robo - I know this is an old post, but I am now in a similar situation. I haven't ever linked tickets for someone who wasn't from my household. My sister is a FL resident and is going to come stay with us and go to the parks for 3 of the days of our 7-day trip. We have a room-only reservation that she has been added to. I'm assuming that if she purchases her tickets (to get the FL resident rate) and gives me the ticket information I'll be able to link them to her in my MDE (she doesn't have MDE, but she's in my friends & family list). She'll have just the 3 day ticket but my daughter and I will have a 7 day ticket. Thanks for the help!

Yes, she should just buy a ticket and give you the ticket number/confirmation. Then you add it to your MDE and assign it to her name.

Thanks! That is what I figured, but I haven't ever added tickets for anyone that wasn't from my household. I appreciate your help!
