Tickets expired in 2020...question

We purchased Disneyland tickets in 2020 that expired when the parks closed and we weren't able to go. The tickets were purchased from a travel agency online (ARESTravel). In 2020 when I called, Disneyland told me that the tickets were not refundable but that the purchase price could be applied to future tickets.

I just called to try to do that and was told that because they were purchased through a travel agency, I need to first purchase new tickets. Then I need to mail back my old tickets and the confirmation number for the new tickets. Then they will review and issue a refund in the form of a check in 6-8 weeks.

Has anyone else heard of this? It makes me very nervous to pay full price for the new tickets and then hope that we get a refund for the original tickets.

Did Disneyland ask you to mail back the tickets? Or, were you asked to mail them to the travel agency?

Yeah, I've heard multiple reports of this unfortunately.

There have been multiple reports of people contacting Disney and being told they could only exchange tickets at the ticket booths (not one bit helpful if you're not local). But, this is the first time I've heard anyone be asked to mail them back. Maybe Disney finally realized they need a better solution? Maybe? Hopefully others in the same situation will chime in.

Yeah...we're in NC so stopping by a ticket booth isn't really an option!
