Tickets Discounted When Buy a MYW Package?

I read the above thread about ticket pricing, including the charts, and I am totally confused. I ran some numbers on the Disney site yesterday and swear it was giving me much lower per day prices as I added days (lower than shown on the chart in the above-referenced thread). Specifically, for our family of 4 (2 adults/2 kids) booking a Deluxe resort (upgraded room but not CL) for 7 nights, it was adding only another $70.30 to get the 4th day ticket and another 42.60 to get each of the 5th-8th day tickets. So that's less than $18 and $11/pp, respectively, to add the days? Did I do something wrong??? This seems almost too good to be true, and unless something like Undercover Tourist has even BETTER "incremental" discounts, I'm not following why anyone staying within DW wouldn't just book a package. Especially if it preserves the right to add dining later, should you decide you want it or they offer FD. What am I missing here? Just starting out so wondering if if I'm just doing something totally wrong. Thanks so much.

1- This seems almost too good to be true, and

2- unless something like Undercover Tourist has even BETTER "incremental" discounts, I'm not following why anyone staying within DW wouldn't just book a package. Especially if it preserves the right to add dining later, should you decide you want it or they offer FD.

3- What am I missing here? Just starting out so wondering if if I'm just doing something totally wrong. Thanks so much.

1 & 3- Disney does discount the price of tickets with the "Resort Package" prices.
But, the discounts are seldom listed and most are not usually apparent to the guest, unless some deconstruction math is applied.

2- Nope, unless they are running a "Buy X, get X free" promotion.

The ticket 'discounts' that you are listing sound comparable to normal ticket prices. Any days above a 5 day ticket are around $10/day.

Honestly, I didn't think that there were any discounts to tickets when booking a package, so that is new to me. The only time I have seen WDW discount the tickets, was the 'buy 4, get 3 free' deal, which only happened once that I know...many moons ago. My 8yo was in a stroller. It was awesome.

We typically rent points or use room only discount (or CM family discount), and then buy tickets from UT or attend a YES/Homeschool event. Last trip was complicated to get a ticket discount...we were able to buy discounted Disney GC from Target (18%+ discount), then purchased the ticket vouchers from our local Disney store before the prices went up. Then spent way too long on the phone with Disney IT to link our vouchers so we could prebook our FP+.
