We are planning to get go to Florida for President's week of 2017 and 2018. The idea is we would get an AP in Feb 2017, go for 3 days towards the end of the trip. (Non-Disney trip, but just off-site resort and 3 days Universal.) The in Feb 2018 we would go to Universal at the START of the trip, stay on-site for 1 or 2 nights to get the Express Pass, and then over to WDW. This would allow us to bridge two trips with an AP, making the second trip almost "free".
Then the thought occurred to me - I remember once reading that someone bought a regular WDW park ticket (let's call it a 6-day pass) and then on the last day converted it to an AP. They claimed that the AP started on the day they converted the ticket - NOT from the first day of use. I've read this a few times. I know that the first part is true - converting a regular WDW to an AP after using the pass.
My question for anyone in the know - does Universal do the same thing? In two parts:
1) If I buy a regular 3-day pass, can I then on the last day convert it to an AP?
2) If I do #1, would the AP start date be on the first day I used the pass or the day I convert it?
I ask because it would give us slightly more flexibility to our second trip if we started the AP at the end of the first trip.
Thanks for any advice you can give!
