ticket upgrade?

the universal orlando guide book said i can upgrade my ticket to an AP after i've used it by paying the difference in price. does that have to be on the first day of use, or can it be a few days later as long as it's still a valid ticket? our tickets are good for 14 days of admission, 14 day expiration, 2 park/day. will universal have some way to know how much i paid retail for the tickets, since we bought from mapleleaf, or will we only get credit for what the vendor paid universal for them?

oh, and if we do opt to upgrade to the type of AP which includes parking, does it only include parking in the general garage, or would it also include parking at the hotels?

You have to upgrade by the last day of usage. The price is encoded in the bar code, so Universal does know how much you paid. Free parking is only at the parks.
