Ticket Upgrade Question

HI! We are going in March 2018 and will be part of the kids high school band trip. Each of us will have either a 3 or 4 day park hopper ticket. Our family is staying longer than the band and we want to upgrade the tickets for a longer number of days. I read the Ticket Info sticky thread but want to make sure that I understand correctly.

My understanding is that as long as we do it before the end of the day on the last day that the ticket is used, we can upgrade by paying the difference between the original ticket cost and the upgraded ticket. Does it matter that the original tickets were purchased as part of a large group package deal (I wasn't sure if Disney ever discounted tickets for large groups like this)? If they do offer discounts on these types of tickets, how would I know if the original ticket was discounted and what the discounted price was?

My other question is...We are DVC members and would possibly consider upgrading the original tickets to annual passes with the DVC discount. Would there be any issues with this?

Thanks for all of your help!

I have had 2 kids do WDW with their high school bands. Both times the tickets were not upgradable and expired right after the trip. I'm not sure you will be able to do what you want.

1. Yes, it CAN matter.
2. They do.
3. Somebody in charge of the trip should know what the tickets cost.
A loose rule-of-thumb would be if the discount is greater than 10-15%, or so, the ticket would not be upgradable.
4. Same rules apply.

I'm also thinking that you won't be able to upgrade, but I have no way to know what kind of a "deal"
the group is getting on tickets.

You learn something every day. The UK tickets are quite heavily discounted compared to gate prices, but they're upgradable to AP so I'd always assumed all tickets were (at a cost).
