We finally have enough air miles to buy a theme park ticket (air miles has a sale on right now too...get adult tickets at kid ticket points) Unfortunately the only tickets available are the base tickets and the premium tickets. The ticket is for my grandmother who will not be going to the water parks or Disney Quest. Can I order the base ticket through air miles and then add on the no expirary option and hopper option when we get to the parks??

By my calculations I would need to pay $35 for the hopper option and $55 for the no expirary option on a seven day base ticket. Is this possible? Thank you for your help!

Yeah, There is no reason you can't upgrade them as long as they are normal magic your way tickets.

I'm wondering...

I was told that in order to add the option, a guest relations cast member has to cancel the old admission, credit you, then have you purchase a new ticket, built however you would like.

Wouldn't that credit be for what was paid for the ticket, or would it be for full gate price, thereby allowing the guest to pay only the difference for the option(s) they want?

I'm fascinated by the whole ticketing system they have, so forgive my question! :)

Snacky - Depends on the ticket type. If it is a "Magic Your Way" ticket, then no, it would not need to be done in that manor.

For example, if you bough AAA tickets and paid $100 for an XYZ Hopper Magic Your Way ticket ( these values are for example purposes only. ) but Disney's "Gate price" for that ticket is $102.11 for that ticket, and you want to add the Water Park FUN and more pack ( previously MPP's ), and that is $47.94 after tax... they aren't going to charge you the full difference between ticket types to add the FUN pack. They only charge you the $47.94, and voucher off (read: Make disappear) the $2.11 difference that you paid less.

The way you speak of is for pre-magic your way tickets, and is a mess...err.. i mean process I don't deal with. :)

Thank you so much for your replies. They are magic your way tickets so I guess I will be able to add those options. Thank you. Have a disney day!

The way it was told to me is that, for MYW to MYW upgrades (prior to or during the first 14 days of the ticket's usage life) you pay the difference between gate price of what you have versus the gate price of what you want.

In other words the cost of upgrades is the same for example $35. plus tax for hopping regardless of whether you bought the ticket at a discount or not.

I'm told that the ticket is reprinted; you may get back a ticket with a different picture on the back.

The trade up value of a (pre-2005) park hopper towards MYW or any pass towards an annual pass is less favorable. One complicated formula quoted to one guest had a 7 day MYW pass with one day remaining having just the 7'th day value (about $3.) available for trade in towards an AP. Better to pay cash for the AP and save the leftover ticket for an 1 to 3 day vacation not covered by the AP.

seashore - depends on the ticket media. If it is paper ticket media, then yes, it will be reprinted no matter what, and it will be reprinted with that location's ticket stock, which varies from Guest Relations to DQ/WaterParks/PI, ect.

If it is a plastic card, and current resort room key ( Key to the world ) then it may upgrade back onto the plastic ticket depending on the type of ticket you have before the upgrade.
