Ticket Questions....no expiration??

My question really revolves around getting the best value, and making sure I understand the ticket options.

For the foreseeable future, my family will be going to WDW for about 1 week per year. As we have little ones, we would probably go to the resorts 4 to 5 times per trip, spending the other days at the resort.

Going on UT, I see I can get a 7 day base ticket for $262. (Not bad compared to $253 for the 5 day pass.) I understand this is good for 14 days from the first use, so we may not use all the days. This is only $37.43 per day. Of course, this is just the parks, and we do not get the Water Park Option.

The other option we have considered is the 10 day Base + Water Park Fun and More (WPFM) with No Expiration. This would be $578 or $57.8 per day. Here is our logic, and I was hoping someone could tell me if it makes any sense!

With this ticket, we would probably use up the Theme Park Options over the next 2 visits (5 per visit). However, it is my understanding that the 10 WPFM are still good forever, even if we use up the Theme Park option. I was thinking over the years, we would end up using the WPFM options, but it would probably be once per visit, maybe twice. That way, once our initial 10 day w/ no expiration is up, we would still have many of the WPFM to use over the years. Then for each trip in the future, we could go for base tickets only.

I get that at $57.8 per day this is more expensive, however; assuming we use 10 theme park days and 10 WPFM entrances, over the long term that gets the price per day down to $28.90. Also, it provides us flexibility in knowing we have the WPFM and can freely use them on any trip.

Does this make any sense, or am I missing any financial issues here?

Thank you!!

Yes the water park part of the tickets will still be good.. In fact we have non expire tickets we bought in 2000 that only have the water park available on them and we just used them last May. Had no issues.
It just a pain in the b*** to have to travel with two sets of tickets- One for the water parks and the other for the theme parks but its worth it.
The other thing to remember.. If you get the tickets now you are locking in at a lower price per ticket. Usually Disney typically raises their prices in Aug so investing now will save you some $$$.

Shelly, thank you very much! I had read the book, mouse savers and the stuff on these boards, but still felt unsure of the answer. I appreciate your response!

Every family's situation is different.

You won't know whether you saved money until the tickets have been used up and you are back at home and then you go back over your records.

Or you can plan your vacations first and then (do the math and) you can find out much sooner that you wil have saved money with your choice of tickets.

Two families with very slightly different touring plans might each be better off with profoundly different kind(s) of ticket(s).

As a rough rule, a non-expiring ticket needs to last for two complete vacations to save you money. Leftover water park fun can tilt the balance in favor of non-expiring tickets.

This (10-day, NoExp, PH, WPFM) is what we're doing for our tickets. My mom and I are planning to take each of my children individually for their fifth birthdays. We are figuring taking three trips and spending 3-4 days on each. In the long run, it will work out to be the best deal for us. Plus, when the whole family is ready to go together, we'll still probably have some WPFM visits to use.

As previous posters have said, this is what we do also. We have old 10 day non exp tickets from at least 7 or 8 years ago with at leat 5 or 6 water park days on them. The 10 day tickets lasted us a few years. We also had AP tickets back in 2008, we were married in Disney and they gave them to us for free. I will admit, these were the best - we went 4 times in that period and it was so nice to be able to just walk in and out of the park and not have to worry about anything.

I definately think that is the way to go and you will be able to have those water park tickets for years. We also used them in DisneyQuest.

Linda
