Judging from the prices of the new tickets --- can I buy a 9 day pass with no expiry and just use it over the next 2-3 years? Would be cheaper than buying 3 -3 day passes.

Yes, you can. And actually, I'd go ahead and get the 10 day with no expiration if you're going to go that route.
