When we went to DLR in 2012, we received our tickets on plastic cards (like room keys with a bar code). I have read recently that tickets are paper. Did they change this?

Depends where/how you buy your cards. For instance, if I were to go to my local grocery store, I could buy a plastic card there. If I go to the gates or buy an e-ticket, then a paper pass is printed. That being said, the paper passes are VERY sturdy, and have lasted us a 7-day trip without a problem.

Thanks! I'm not sure how we will get our passes yet. It will either be through my husbands work or waiting to see what Dapper Days is offering. In 2012, we got them through Costco.

We just ordered through Costco and received our package and the 2 day park hopper is a card not a paper ticket

Through Costco (which is Disney) packages one gets the plastic cards, if you buy your tickets from some other source the tickets are card stock eventually.
