hi

im just about to book for end of april 08, this will be our first trip...yay

im taking my 9 year old daughter and feel a bit confused at what park tickets to buy, we are going for 14 days and thought about getting a a 7 day wdw ticket and a 7 day orlando 5 park ticket?

does this sound ok or am i being greedy in thinking i will do this much?

i'm new on here so be nice he he :cloud9:

Hello and welcome Ah Tickets:confused3 You really need to consider what you would like to do while you are there. Firstly where are you staying? Are you hiring a car? Do you want to spend just 7 days within WDW including water parks? Are you going to visit US IOA BG SW and wet n wild?

Personally the first year we went we got a 14 day ultimate pass and a 5 park flexi ticket(which also lasted 14 days). To others this seemed mad as we only went for 14 days! Why - so we could go where we wanted when we wanted. We planned our days and stuck to them, but some nights we revisited parks if they were open late.

We had spent so much money getting there i wasnt going to scrimp on the tickets;)

The wdw site has the park opening times, have a good idea of your itenary. eg dont plan a water park day on a weekend! If you are not staying on WDW property you cant stay for EMH so avoid the parks that are running EMH that day, the crowds should be lighter.

Do you want to eat at character meals if so plan though and book them! these resturants can book out really fast. Cinderella books out at 180 days !

Best of all enjoy the planning :thumbsup2

Hi,

I agree, it does depend on which parks you want to do and are you planning rest days etc

A 7 day WDW ticket, maybe a 2 day Universal ticket and a 1 day Sea World would give you a good balance between all the parks.

For Disney we prefer the 'complex' Magic Your Way tickets as there are many variations and we have tickets that do not expire and can last a few holidays.

Universal always have offers on so it is worth checking their website.

I can highly recommend Maple Leaf who issue actual tickets at discounted prices.

Hi emmabella

I think that you have to work out what type of holiday you and your daughter want :) .

Sometimes there can be the impression from other posters, that 14 days in orlando means 14 days sleeping, eating and bretahing Disney... Yes, it is to some people, but not to all ;)

We dip in an out of Disney and do lots of other things if we spend a week or two at Disney. In a week in Orlando, we might spend a couple of days at Disney, a day at Sea World and the other 4 days doing other bits and pieces (like a little bit of shopping, playing mini-golf, relaxing by the pool etc). Although we have been there a few times and don't feel the need to "do everything"... (althoug, to be honest, we never did). We buy non-expiry tickets and they last us for years! So we are the other end of the spectrum...

As other posters have said, where you are staying may also affect what you do (i.e. if you are staying on Disney property without a car, you are more likely to use the Disney parks more often...).

I agree with everyone else, work out what you are going to want to do (not neccesarily when or in any great detail) and go from there. It is not about greed - it is about buying the right or most economical tickets for you :)

i would buy the 10 day WDW ticket, as the difference between the 7 day and the 10 day isn't very much and if it turns out you want to spend those 3 days at WDW, it will cost more to add on.

for example, the 7 day base ticket will cost you $233.24
while the 10 day base ticket will cost you 239.63
or a difference of only about $6
that's practically free for another 3 days. And you might want those 3 days.

and if you want to include the water parks and more option, the difference remains the same.

in other words, the 7 day ticket that includes the water parks and more option will cost you $286.50
while the 10 day ticket that includes water parks will cost you $292.89
or a difference of about $6
again you may as well get the 10 day ticket for just another $6

and if you're interested in also having the park hopper option in addition to the water parks and more option your comparative prices would be as follows:
for 7 days -including park hopper and water parks = $334.43
for 10 days-including park hopper and water parks = $340.82
or a difference of about $6

so again you may as well buy the 10 day ticket...
for each type of ticket, the difference between a 7 day and 10 day ticket is miniscule...

Have a look on the trip report board for what others do, especially other people who are on their first or second trips. I know everyone is different, but it will give you some idea of what you can and cannot get done.

For me we always go with the total flexibility of the Disney Ultimate tickets and the 5 park Flexi. This give us the opportunity to visit more than on park in a day (Disney and Universal) as well as being ably to 'just pop in' without feeling we've wasted a day.

Not sure what you mean by this:confused3 The point i was trying to make was i had spent £XXX getting there for the kids to be gutted that we couldnt go back because i hadnt thought about the other ticket options. A one park base ticket in wdw is alot more money than the small increase from a 7 day to 14 day ticket.

The first year we went we did not have a single rest day because we were just so excited by it all, now when we go we put a lot more rest days in. The first visit is always overwhelming imho:)

We have just come back from our first trip and the way I finally managed to decide on tickets was to read about all the different parks in depth and categorised them into must-do's / maybe's etc (actually I'm so sad I called them grade A / B / C attractions depending on how much we wanted to do them!) ANYWAY, having categorised them I mocked up an itinery to realistically see how much we could fit in in our 14 days. We ended up with a 4 park flex ticket, 2 day Disney ticket with 3 visits to "waterparks and fun", and a Discovery Cove ticket with 7 days free entry to Busch Gardens. These easily covered what we wanted to do and the only thing that we missed out that we had planned to do was Typhoon Lagoon.

A lot of people told me I would at least need a 7 day Disney ticket but for us I knew we would want to spend more time elsewhere - I was right. Only you can say what you think you and your daughter will prefer and once you have that in your head the different ticket options might make a bit more sense.

^^^ That was the long answer - the short answer is no I don't think what you have planned is greedy but you will probably find that you don't use all of the days.

As its your first visit its a hard choice. We have always gone for the most amount of days non expiry ticket.Have just bought 10 hoppers with 10 day pluses(we will use pluses for water parks)at £250 each giving me 20 days at £12.50 for next year aswe have used our old tickets.
But as we have visited for 16+ years these will last us 3 visits.
for next year were also getting a universal/seworld/bush/aquatica/wetnwild/IOA flex ticket
As its been a few years since we have done these parks and are going for 3 weeks and want to do aquatica(not sure aquatica open when you visit)
As outhers have said its up to you what you buy,but would alays go for disneys non expiry everytime. You never know you might love it and you will be able to use them on your return

By sheer coincidence

As for tickets if you can afford it then go for maximum flexibility as there will be parks you will want to back to more than others.

As others suggest look at a few longer ticket options for not much more money, is the travel to Busch Gardens OK etc.

Is this the first of a few trips to Orlando, if so you may want to concentrate on Disney and Seaworld, for example first then plan for US/IOA/BG for subsequent trips.

We are still trying to work out which tickets we need for our trip, we are going for 21 nights and it is turning out to be really confusing! We are planning on having the non expiring tickets as any days that we don't use this year we will use next year. Even still knowin what to go for is very difficult!

T16Gem have you thought about annual Passes? If you plan well you can get 2 trips out of them and they give you some discounts as well.

I was thinking about that - the only trouble is we don't know whether we will actually get two trips out of them, as we run our own shop without staff ( at present) we can only go at Christmas (as we close), so if we have to do that again next year then we will miss it, if we have employed someone by then, we would be able to go in November which is our favourite time to go anyway. I guess we will have think about it. TBH I think we might go for the AP next year if we have a staff member by then,
