Ticket buying ideas

I'll be in Orlando next January for a conference at the Swan and Dolphin. I have two days between the end of the conference and the beginning of our 7 night Western cruise on DCL's Magic. We'll be staying at BWV the two days/nights before the cruise.

I have three options (the way I see it) to get park tickets for those two days -

1. buy tickets now (either two day base or two day with park-hopper option, as expensive as that is now), at my local Disney Store or via the WDW website.

2. buy the above tickets, but buy them at the gate - is that possible?

3. Or, wait until December when my conference announces the third party that offers park tickets; at least they have the past two years. The type of tickets offered and the prices are unknown right now.

I've checked out ticketmania.com but their prices are no better than official WDW prices. Undercovertourist.com tickets start at 3 days.

No DVC options for this ticket type and no current Disney Visa promotional offers that I'm aware of.

I have 2 different suggestions:
1) Based upon the options that you listed, I would wait for the conference rate info in December. If the rate isn't any better than the other rates that you have found, you can always pick up your tickets at the Disney Store in December.

2) I believe that from your signature you are a DVC member. In that case, I am assuming that you will be going again in another year or so. In the case, instead of paying for a 2 day pass, does it make more sense to buy a 10 day non-expiring pass and use just 2 days in January? You can then use the remaining much cheaper days on your next trip.

Yeah, that thought crossed my mind. But we're borrowing a bunch of DVC points for the cruise so I doubt we'll be back down to the parks within the next 12 months.

The non-expiring option means just that... it doesn't expire - so you have a long, long, long, long time to use them - plus with the price of tickets going up & up... it's a great deal in the long run (of course, IF you have the cash to buy extra days now)

What did you decide to do? We're going in 2 1/2 weeks and I just checked ticket prices today...ouch!! We only need tickets for 2 days (DH has days left on an old park hopper and we're going to MNSSHP for one of the days) for me and DD, 8 - $257!! That includes tax for 2 day/no expiry option. The Disney Store starts w/3 day tickets.

I'm a little confused about the tickets...we're staying at the resort for 5 days but only need 2 days worth of tickets, can we buy those at the front desk? The days are not consecutive.

I must confess that I'm considering the 10 day MYW/PH with no expiration (referenced earlier in this thread). The cost would be huge, but then I'd have ten days worth of park visits that could be used over several years. The benefit of this would be that the ticket cost-per-day would be at their cheapest and that they would be purchased at 2006 gate price rates. You just know they'll go up next year (and the next year ...)

My concern was that my DS9 would qualify now for the 3-9 ticket price, but what happens when he turns 10? I raised this question in another thread and it seems that will be ok with it --> http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=14888515#post14888515

Anyway, I might do that option or I might wait until December when my conference anounces its info about ticket packages/prices. Still have to buy the airline tix and after that we'll know how the budget is looking.
