Tianas Bayou Adventure - Disney Releases POV Ride Through

Did we all ride the same splash mountain or we just now reliving it with rose-tinted glasses? Because that ride was always a bit boring and had lots of “dead spaces” and the end song was only catchy because we’ve been listening to it for decades. It was great for its time. People really want to hate on Disney right now and I get it, they have a lot to prove to parks fans but I truly don’t see how this isn’t an improvement to the look and story of SM. The animatronics are not even comparable; the storyline is cute, if a bit safe; it’s colorful and vibrant; the music is current, lively and actually interesting.

As a 30-something year old, I’ve been to parks dozens of times as an adult and only once as a young kid, so admittedly, I don’t have the same memory-enhanced attachement to Splash. I never found it iconic or all that interesting. But I think that’s the whole point. No one likes change when it alters our childhood memories. And Disney has to grow with its audience, it’s no longer trying to appeal to people who grew up and loved the parks 20 years ago, they need to appeal to the kids of this generation who know Tiana and those characters and music.

I think having Dr. Facilier in this could have been a cool element but I think this allows Disney to maybe do a Halloween overlay in a few years. If they go that route, I think that would be better than having him there the whole time, makes things fresh and exciting when it’s limited.

ETA: maybe it was a mistake to do a pre-open POV because the silence through the film is strange and won’t be the case when we park goers actually experience it. They obviously didn’t want to distract from the talking of the animatronics or the music so it’s oddly silent, not even a peep when they do the big drop. People will be laughing and singing and talking (and probably screaming) through the ride when we actually get to ride it which will make it feel normal and not so eerily quiet.
The good thing is there is a lot of open space on this ride that when they realize the mistake they made they can add in Dr Facilier.

Watch the POV of Splash Mountain, then watch this most recent POV of Tianas....Its crazy to think that at least to me, the 30+ year old ride was more entertaining and more up-beat and enjoyable. At least that is one ride I dont have to worry about trying to rope drop or fit into my plans.

Bottom line is a day at Magic Kingdom is incredibly expensive. For the last 16-17 months, the park has not had a major attraction.
TRON Lightcycle has been open over a year now so this statement is not true, and to say there isn't another major attraction in the park .... is to say there is only one major attraction in the park. If you enjoy so little why go?

For someone who goes as much as me, it’s a pain. It’s unfortunate. For a family that can only afford to go once (and there’s a lot of those), you have to be able to rationale the downtime and less eventful day as “it’s ok, it’s for the betterment of the park.”
There will NEVER be the perfect time to go. What about all the folks whose castle view was ruined by the crane and workers? What about the timeframe every year SM closes down? Maintenance and emergency repairs? The minute all this "betterment" stops is the beginning of the end for any theme park.

Disney is charging insane prices and to the average American, a day in Magic Kingdom is not doable. Disney took that time and did a very moderate (less than moderate) upgrade. It is totally rational to now think a few things.
Why isn't a day in MK doable? Is it because it has more attractions than any other park? That adds to the value. Get to rope drop, use Genie+, don't waste time with long meals, stay to closing.

And yes, it is expensive but I still stand that it is a value. 12+ hours of enjoyment vs the cost of a couple hours Broadway Show, NFL game, fancy dinner, concerts ... overall they cost more for less. Folks just need to pick where they want to spend their luxury dollars. If a theme park isn't giving them joy and they find the offering unfortunate, don't go.

1 - you should have just left Splash as it was.
100% no. Aside from all the issues with it, I would venture most guests had no interest in it other than the physical boat ride and drop. They still get that with an IP they know, complete refreshing of the entire ride and a princess getting an attraction (there are few).

People visiting would then have gotten more for their money for 17 months. Disney could have spent the money on something new.
TRON Lightcycle has been open over a year now, and the lower capacity only lasted a couple months. To spend $$ on something new it would have been years with permitting and land preps. SM needed addressing and they did,.

2 - Disney really killed it with Guardians but this was a fail. They shouldn’t accept mediocrity. They clearly have.
IN YOUR OPINION (and no one has ridden it yet) based on a video it is a fail. I expect it to be very popular with folks scrambling to ride. I don't even like boat rides but I'll be riding this again.

I watched a few more videos today from cast members. I think it looks great!
I'm excited to ride it! Apparently I'll be by myself in the boat.😄
We'll ride with you! 💦💦

Your free to have your opinion, but that is all it is, an opinion. I like Splash mountain better, the beat and the theming was better to me, plus it actually told a story as you went through it. This is just a hot mess, boring, and missing important characters. This is MY opinion.

The ride is nowhere near the level of trash. It's certainly an upgrade compared to something like Frozen Ever After.
anything is an upgrade to frozen and the 1 or 2 scenes in that blank canvas of a ride.

Song of the south is some of the best (for me) and most iconic Disney music. But it was canceled. So do we think that even 50% of the people who rode it (outside of Disney fans like us) even knew it was from a movie if they didn't google it before hand? I'm going to say no.

My kids have seen Song of the South. I have it on VHS. They liked the ride. They like the music. They also understand why it was removed. They are really excited about the update. We are in the parks for 2 days the day it opens before a cruise but are not going to MK cause this trip is for family members and they don't want to go to MK, but my kids are trying to figure out how to let them go over without us to ride it cause we are season pass holders so they can come and go. Me and the wife have no interest. We will ride it when we are in the MK again.

I completely agree. That is my opinion.

And your opinion is that the SM story was better. 😶

Disney dropped the ball. Mind boggling how you can leave Dr Facilier out. I'll definitely ride it but won't be running to it like I did with Splash Mountain. Smh. So disappointing!
My friend who is not a diehard Disney parks fan like us on the boards sent me a message this morning about how she saw the POV and was like, where is Dr. Facilier??? She also thought the ride looked very empty. She's a massive PATF fan and she was left a bit disappointed.

Dr Facilier not being in this is a miss but Disney is trying to tone down the scariness of their rides. I though the long climb would've been a perfect place to do "Are You Ready?" but Disney didn't feel the same and I'm sure that would've terrified kids. At Disneyland, they removed some scariness from the Snow White dark ride including changing the name of the ride. Plus, the ride is set after he is pulled down into the underworld so him returning wouldn't really make a lot of sense.

Yeah, I know why as I explained that to another user on this thread. I still think it's a negative point towards the ride. I do wonder how they'll tackle a proposed Villains land if they're worried about scaring kids.

I loved Splash because it was a nice long ride. I liked the drop and the potential to get wet. I was never really invested in the characters, story or music. So, I know that I’ll continue to love the new ride for those reasons. :)

But after watching the video a few times, I do feel they dropped the ball with the storytelling. I don’t know. It feels kind of thrown together. Not a lot of thought to it. As I said, it doesn’t really matter to me though, cause I’ll still love it.

I think the Villains Land would be like Haunted Mansion. More whimsical with hints of scariness.

Yes, if there is no conflict or peril in the ride’s storyline, there’s little reason for the long drop. Perhaps, the experience is better in person … Perhaps.

How are you gonna bold and the capital letters write in your opinion like your opinion is more valid than someone else’s??? Apparently it’s not because most people seem to hate this ride, and those who were excited for the overlay are severely disappointed IN YOUR OPINION.
