Hi, my DD is 5 and so far her only thrill ride has been BTM at DLRP which she loves, (which I hear is a bit wilder then the WDW version).

I know it is down to the child however I was wondering what rides will have a thrill effect for a 5y/o that is not too intense, I was thinking -BTM, Splash mountain at MK, the Rapids at AK, and test track at Epcot.

She meets the height restriction of TOT however not sure if I should allow her on. I don't know the height restrictions for everest however from the clips I have seen of it I am think No to that one as it looks a bit to rough.

Any rides that have inversions will also be a no.

Not sure of any rides at US/IOA however my mum says that spiderman is a must for her even though DD thinks it is for boys.

Any suggestions.

My DS will be 5 when we take him to WDW for the first time next April. At the moment, he is just over 422 so meets the height restrictions for most rides, with the exception of the ones that I wouldn't want him to ride anyway IYSWIM.

These are the rides that he has expressed an interest in and I am happy to allow:

MK - Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Goofy's Barnstormer, Space Mountain (we're still considering whether this may be a bit intense for him)

AK - He says he wants to try Expedition Everest but we are reserving judgement - at the moment he is still 2 inches short of the height requirement, I believe. If he is tall enough for Kali River Rapids, we will let him on that.

Epcot - Soarin', Test Track (again, he's not tall enough at the moment so we will cross that bridge when it comes) - def. NOT Mission:Space

MGM - Tower of Terror (he really, really wants to do it so we will probably let him and live with the consequences afterwards  )

IOA - as far as I'm aware, the only rides he is going to be allowed on are the ones in Seuss Landing, Spiderman and Flying Unicorn - we're happy for him to do all of them

Universal - I don't have a problem with him riding any of the rides he's tall enough for at Universal

HTH

my 5 yr old did TOT !! he loved it :scared1: he also wants to try EE this year...he is much braver than me ;)

At IOA I'd say that if you are already considering rides like Splash Mountain and the rapids at AK, then try Dudley Do-Rights ripsaw falls and Popeye and Blutos Bilge rat barges. These are two very good rides, but you do get absolutely drenched on both of them.

Our DS, 6 is not a big adrenaline junkie yet (unlike his 11 yr old sister) but he loved Soarin and Mission Space (the green channel) in Epcot. The green option doesn't have the spinning aparently :confused3

In AK he did try Expedition Everest and wasn't that keen - didn't try it again (the rest of us must have had 3 more goes!)

I agree with 'dstiles' points above; but if you go all that way do not miss spiderman :scared1: , it's awesome! Not sure how your 5yr old will handle it.

P.S Have a great time at POR, it's our favourite. I'm sure you will love it! :cheer2:

On our last trip, DD had just turned 5.

MK - she loved BTMR and Barnstormer. She tried Splash Mountain and said once was enough! She didn't make the height restriction for Space Mountain.

Epcot - she was wary whilst on Maelstrom in Norway (enjoyed it better when she was 3:confused3 ) but loved Test Track.

MGM - Went on ToT - ONCE :scared1: - she'll try this one again when she's 6 (or so she says :lmao: ) Did not meet the height requirements for RnR.

AK - Liked Kali River Rapids - especially when parents got soaked!
Enjoyed the safari. didn't meet the height requirement for EE.

I agree that Spiderman is a must at IoA - DD really loves the Flying Unicorn there (and has done since she was 3!)

Hi
We've just come back 3 weeks ago and these are the rides our 5 year old enjoyed........

AK - Everest (didn't tell her it went backwards until she was strapped in!)
AK - Dinosaur - some parts she didn't like, but closed her eyes.
AK - Tricertop spin
AK - kali River Rapids

MK - Splash mountain - drags me on it!
MK - Thunder Mountain (much lamer than the DLRP one)

MGM - noting there she really likes.

EPCOT - test track - she loved that.
EPCOT - Soarin' - really enjoys it, it's just the intial movement were they take you up.

IOA - Spiderman loved that.
IOA - Juarassic Park river ride - really enjoyed that some Dinosaurs a little scary.
IOA - Unicorn Coasters

IOA - I'd watch out for bumpers/bar heights, we often found we needed to watch out for her bashing her nose as the rides end - you know were they suddenly break and it jolts.

Universal - Woodey Woodpeckers ( watch out for sharp bend at the end - you can easily squash little ones if you are sat on the outside of the car.

Although she was 5 she was tall enough for most rides, but she's not quite ready for Space mountain etc.

Hope that is helpful

We just got back and took our (just) dd4 on Splash mountain, BTMRR, and ToT.
The picture of us on ToT is me and DH each side of her staring at her. We held her tight, her face was a picture of pure fear when the doors opened to look down, she was very scared and we regret giving in and taking her on it.
It doesn't seem to have done any lasting damage, she didn't cry but she doesn't want to go on it again. DH was very upset with himself for taking her on it. Although it did become a bit of a joke for the rest of the trip "if you're naughty, we'll take you on that ride again" ;)
The other two she loved. She also loved all the slides at TL.

When we first took our DD in 2004 she was 4 and we put her on everything that she was big enough for (this included TOT, Star Tours, Spiderman, Jurassic Park). Having been every year since we just let her go on everything that she is big enough for including Exp Everest. This years new ride will be the Mummy at Universal (she always gets upset because she is just not quite big enough for Duelling Dragons and Hulk).

We took her to DLP at the end of last year and she just loved RnR Coster :yay: .

I am very much of the opinion that every child is different and some will like the rides and some wont. My point is that you just dont know if they will like it until they have done it. When we first put our DD on TOT she really wasnt sure what to expect and screamed for the whole of the ride. The first thing she said when we got off was can we go on again!!!.... KIDS!!!!!

When we last went with DS then 5 he loved Spiderman, Shrek 4D, Star Wars, Back to the Future, Jaws,Jimmy Neutron, Goofys Barn Stormer,BTMRR, HM, Spaceship Earth, Ellen's Energy Adventure, Figment, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Tough to be a Bug,Test Track, Buzz Lightyear, Stitch, POTC, MuppetVision,Philharmagic. He did not like Jurassic Park :confused3 Splash Mountain :confused3 Dinosaur:confused3 nor does he want to do Tower of Terror but this year he's interested in Mission Space and Expedition Everest:thumbsup2 You know your own child and what they can cope with;) lots of CMs understand that you might want to wait in a queue but not ride and that's fine don't worry about it you can always leave the ride area if you want to.
