Just booked 1 week rental in Orlando $49.94 + taxes.

9/2 - 9/10/03

but still a really good deal.

No discount codes used at all.

I read your message and thought I'd give Thrifty a look. Low and behold I got an economy car for $39.99 + taxes weekly rate. I won't need it for the whole week (9/8 - 9/12) but thrilled anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

I just tried the site and got a quote of $98.99 for 3 days. what did I do wrong, or did they see they were making a big mistake and take the low prices away? Peggie

I tried to get the rate for November--but was unsuccessful! It must have a cutoff date--although I am not sure what the cutoff date is. What a GREAT rate if you can get it!

:)

The OP probably got a weekly rate. Weekly rates are usually less than daily or weekend rates. Weekly rates usually kick in at 5 days min.

Does anyone know anything about Thrifty or has anyone had any experiences with Thrifty? I'd like to know more about this rental car company before I rent from them.

I have never rented from Thrifty and would never just based on the report from Mousesavers. I have pasted it here.

The rental agencies that get the most complaints from MouseSavers.com readers are L&M, Thrifty and Payless. These are often the least expensive agencies on first glance, but if you can find the right combination of codes, coupons and other discounts, I think you'll usually find you can go with a more dependable agency at a similar price. I've received many complaints about these agencies, including: car type reserved was not available at pick-up, aggressive selling of insurance, overcharging, poor car quality, etc.

we used thrifty for a short trip lasat month......two days.....end of july ....booked online for 25$ plus ....for fullsize...

waited a long time for a bus ....approximately 25 minutes...then another 20 minutes or so to check out.....

realize now.....they did not give me a full size ( intrepid is what they say on the net ) but a midsize sonata ...so thus, gail is right they do switch ....but we did not have hard sell on insurance....

one other thing.....the car was not FULL so had to go back inside to mention that to the manager who did fill it up for me ....but another 15 minutes wasted....

the return bus to the airport not only takes car rental people back but also people from the long term parking that thrifty has next door to their rental agency....so that did add a bit of time to the return to the airport....

all in all if the price was right and you can afford some extra
time ....this deal would not be too bad.......but just be prepared to spend extra time getting on the road and getting back to the airport

post note ....on the web site they say image of the models are unavailable....so what is economy to Thrifty....

this rate with all taxes added in ....is similar to the "national" prices back in march using DC and Dc coupons for intermediate car

not sure which one, just need fairly dependable wheels and low $$. I'm not easily talked into extras and will arrive a bit before my buddy so I'll build in time to fiddle with Thrifty. My arm doesn't twist so I hope to come out okay. I'll let you know. I may rue the day I didn't just use FL TOURS but this is a real budget trip with a side excursion planned as well.

Hi,
If you rent it for a week and return it early, plan on being charged the daily rate. A week rate starts (as a rule) with 5 days.

My confirmation has my pickup and return dates and times (9/8 early afternoon, and 9/12 late early evening) and says the rate is $39.94 plus airport access fee of $4.98, State Surcharge of (2.05 per day) $10.25, Sales Tax of 4.04 and Vehicle Licensing Fee ($1.40 per day) $7.00. Estimated Grand Total $66.21. If they don't honor the quote I won't take the car and I'll raise quite a ruckus. I can live with a last minute Mears transport if necessary. Oh and it says Kia Rio or similar. Since I'm renting their "lowest" vehicle they can't downgrade me and I won't pay for anything bigger.

I'll let you know the outcome.

We have used Thifty before several times. Orlando is not the best place to rent a car. As I recall you always have to take a shuttle to get to the car and you have to usually wait for the shuttle. Still, that is an awesome rate, so worth a little inconvenience.

Hi again,
Looks like with your times it has managed to go into 5 days. Hope it all works out for you and you have a good time. :)

I just got a quote for $99.89 for 9/16 - 9/23, did you all go through the Thrifty website? Also, I am scheduled to arrive at the airport at 3:40pm and depart at 3:25 pm, so I listed my pickup and drop off times at 3:30pm, is that what you all would have done?

Well, if I were scheduled to depart at 3:25 I might have chosen an earlier tiime to drop off thecar. I also would have listed the pick up time at 4:30pm, cause you have to get your luggage and you have to take a shuttle. That should be good for at least 40 mins. of time. But, in reality, it does not matter too much, unless your flight is delayed and they won't hold your car for more than an hour or two. You might want to check on that and modify your pickup and dropoff times accordingly.

DJT,

In Orlando, we have rented from Alamo, Hertz and Thrifty.

Thrifty was the cheapest but we would never rent from them again.

The shuttle service from the airport was fine, it was everything else. Got the wrong type of car (needed 4 door but got a 2 door, which is a bit tricky to get 2 car seats in).

Insisted our credit card didn't cover insurance. Argued that it did but didn't believe us until we called the credit card company to confirm. Tried to sell us other insurance we didn't want.

There was other stuff too about them, basically poor customer service. After 1.5 hrs we finally got out of there with a car.

If you don't mind the hassle for the price, then go for it.

Personally, we will pay more for good customer service. It would make us feel better knowing that if something were wrong with our rental, then the company that had the best customer service would make things a lot easier for us.
