Starting to expand horizons (cannot stomach paying over $200 for rental car).

Thrifty mid size is under $130 for 8 days, is it "worth" it.

Are they reliable?

How is shuttle (I assume they have a courtesy phone?)

Are vehicles decent?

TIA

Thrifty is fine. Cars are fine. The shuttle runs constantly. Just go to the stop marked Thrify one flight down from baggage pickup. There are plenty of signs to direct you.

Can I count on them hauling us back to airport in a timely fashion?

How far is their off-site location - how much extra time should I allow extra?

Their shuttles to the airport run constantly. I would allow extra time, only because it is a smart thing to do, not anything to do with Thrifty.

The offsite is 1.5 - 2 miles on the main road to the airport - easy to find and we had no issues with the shuttle.. Our mini van was very new

We have a mini van booked through them for Jan/Feb 07. Their website has a great live help feature that I used to ask some questions. I found out the office is open 24 hours/day and they said the shuttle runs every 5 - 10 mins. Not sure if that's entirely accurate but probably at least every 15 mins.

I was unable to find a better price as of yet. $153/week base rate for the mini van. I'll keep checking the sites as more coupons come out for 2007 and see if I can get better.

I use Thrifty all of the time. It might be worth your while to sign up for Thrifty's Blue Chip program. You will earn points towards free rentals as well as a slight discount for your rental when you book online. The best part will be no line waiting once you get to the Thrifty terminal. My previous experience with the Thrifty at MCO has been long wait lines. Before I had Blue chip I waited about 40 mins. at 11:30pm to pick up my rental car. With Blue Chip, 5 mins and you are done! You would go to the special Blue Chip member line at the station and there is usually no wait. Plus the prices have always been really good and at times I have been upgraded for free just because I am a Blue Chip member. I've never had a problem with the shuttle service at any airport for Thrifty. They usually come right away. Check it out before you book.

Thanks Karen, must say their site is easy to navigate (I hate Dollars).

Good to hear, I signed up for the Blue Chip before making my reservation. Not the rewards part, just the skip the regular line thing.

I use to use Dollar all of the time but when I went to sign up for their FastLane program that page seemed to always be down at that moment. So instead i signed up for Thrifty. It's definately a good thing to sign up for the Blue Chip card. I did an "Amazing Race" type vacation back in June with my nieces and nephews. Our first leg was LA and i picked up my Thrifty mini-van at LAX. I was returning the car at our second leg which was Las Vegas airport. There should of been an extra $100 tapped on to my bill because I picked up and dropped off the car at different stations. The ended up being waived because i was a Blue chip member. If you are not interested in the free rentals (or you can have your points go to other frequent flyer/hotel programs) it's worth it for it's perks. Glad to help!
