Three Yr Old Boy Dies choking on Hot Dog

Alicia,
Given that this thread is so very old, I think our best bet is to post 10 times in various places on the forum so that you can send a private message and then send one to the OP to ask your questions. She was last active in NOvember, so you stand a fair chance of hearing back from her if you try that.

Since you grew up knowing about the case, perhaps you can answer the question in the thread about where this actually occurred. Having gotten a couple of pages in before notcing it was over a decade old, I am now curious.

Stories like this instantly make me want to cry.
Choking has ALWAYS been a fear of mine. Drives me crazy when I see parents allowing their kids to run with grapes, hard candy, hot dogs, popcorn and other very chokable items in their mouth.
I practically hold my breath the entire time I'm seeing them.

Recently, someone I know, who's DD goes away to college, had a friend who died in their sleep due to choking on gum. Could you imagine being her parents and getting that phone call. My heart breaks for these parents. I would be willing to bet this girl was chewing on gum while studying and fell asleep. My DD falls asleep while studying all the time. Such a tragedy!!!

In the end, we as parents can do whatever it takes to prevent our kids from choking by either being neurotic about what they eat, making them sit while eating or whatever, but in the end, we all can choke on anything at anytime. It's scary to think about, but it's true. It will always be one my biggest fears of this happening to someone I love.

Yep......just saw that this thread is as old as my 11yr old DD:rolleyes:

Since the OP hasn't posted on the DIS since Nov 2014, I doubt she is reading today. I could be wrong, but I would be surprised.

hi Twingle Mum, my name is Alicia.. I happen to know this story cause I grew up with the little boy who passed away on Easter Break in Disney.. I was wondering if there was any way to find photos or informatio while getting the last name, or if i could directly message you.. have a wonderful night.
You "grew up with" a three year old boy that died? Hmm. Also your first Dis post - on a decade old thread. Weird.

Don't buy it, TwingleMum

I'm confused. Are you trying to figure out if it's the same kid?

ETA
I remember hearing abut this when it happened because a friend knew the family. But I don't know the last name or where it happened exactly.

they really should make you take a test before they release you from the hospital and let you take a baby home!

Interesting that so many kids seem to choke on hot dogs on Easter weekends at Disney World.

(and no, I am in no way making fun of choking deaths, which, of course, are horrific and NOT funny at all)

You grew up with the boy, but do not know his last name?

Toddlers aren't the only ones who choke on hotdogs. The granddaughter of my MIL/FIL's neighbor choked to death while eating a hotdog. She was 13 years old. :-(

Grrrrr, 12 year old thread???!!!! I didn't even look at the dates when I was reading :headache:

DS17 choked on bacon when he was 12. What was so shocking was it was silent--he couldn't breathe, couldn't talk. I did the Heimlich on him and the bunch of precooked (but not crisped up ) bacon he'd packed into his mouth popped out. I shook for 2 hours--I tried to hold my hand still in front of me, and I couldn't do it. He'd been snacking against the rules (that bacon was saved for breakfast) while I was lying in bed but had the light on. If I'd been asleep instead of just "resting," he could have died.

This woman lost her child. I can promise she is still hurting as badly today as she was the day it happened over a decade ago.

Was it proven this actually happened. or is another Urban Legend, posted as fact?

I really don't know, once I got to a couple of posters names that can't post here anymore, I realized it was a very old thread, then I just looked to see why it was resurrected. Regardless, "what was the mom thinking" comment is just not right.
