Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Wednesday Morning

Strange things….let me think :scratchin

#1 - THE CLAPPER - You know the one….clap on! Clap off! The Clapper!! We are on our 4th one in 22 years. We love it and yes, they do wear out. I’ll be so sad if it ever stops being made. It’s on my bedroom dresser and when we get into bed, we clap it off. It’s the best!

#2 - NETTING THING BETWEEN THE FRONT SEATS OF MY CAR - I love this, because it holds my purse in place so it doesn’t fall onto the floor. I’ll post a picture. I bought it off Amazon.

#3 - PHONE TRIPOD - This thing is the best! I’ll show a picture of this too - also bought off Amazon. I’ll be using it a lot for the upcoming holidays. Ever since I bought this 2 years ago, I’m able to get pictures of our entire family together.

Hunt for Red October

Amazing...in retrospect....great ensemble cast....if on cable will watch the ending

October sky
2028 could be a movie that returns to national interest... unfortunately for me a forgettable movie

Autumn in New York. Winona Ryder and Richard Gere...2000...a movie that is like eating comfort food on a October rainy day.... the kind of movie I search for now on the big screen with little success

Our October sunrise this morning
Beautiful sunrise! The Hunt for Red October was an excellent movie.

Great answers so far today!

I second (third?) jar openers! - This is the one that hangs on my fridge with a magnet:

I bought it at a craft fair in Mt. Dora a couple of Florida trips ago.

And since I'm doing photos and thinking of craft fairs, this little guy:

from a recent autumn festival. He just makes me smile 😊

And third, my pumpkin lights:

I don't remember where I got them, but I put them up every Halloween, usually on the computer desk, as they are in this photo.

24" Giant Squawking Glitter Chicken - On Sunday, we were finishing up at softball while a team from Arizona was getting ready to take our dugout. One of the girls started playing with this giant glitter chicken and put it down next to the coach. The thing is absolutely fabulous. Not sure I want to pay $40 for one of my own, but they tipped me off to a great store in the Phoenix area for oddball toys (I saw a three eyed monster I may need) and I got to hear some awesome stories about the coach's road trips with these kids and their kazoos and other madness he endures in the car...and all because I gushed over this magnificent chicken 🤣

Odd Stuffed Animals/Plushies - In college, I developed a bit of a penchant for odd stuffed animals. This stuck with me for a number of years and I still have quite a few of them. Next to me is my stuffed black widow spider with bulging cartoon eyes and posable legs, behind me are a couple of anteaters, somewhere in the closet is my turtle whose body pulls out of his shell, etc.

Strange but real - I love real life stories (my own and those from others) where fact is stranger than fiction and there's often no logical explanation for whatever has occurred or keeps happening. For me, it means that there's more mysteries out there yet to be solved which adds a bit of spark to life.

Evening all,

I would love to hug a wombat, although a friend has done this and said they smelt.

1. Phone mount - I got a cheap and cheerful phone mount off Shein that is a lifesaver when travelling as it hooks onto the back of airplane seats and means I dont have to prop my phone up on the tray for hours.

2. No crease hair clips - I have a fringe and was sick of pinning it out of my face to do my makeup etc only for it to end up creased and messed up. These clips have saved me from hair misery every morning.

3. Phone lanyard - I've become quite clumsy and have discovered the ease and joy of having a phone lanyard to hold my phone when I'm on holiday. Not only does it mean I don't risk dropping it somewhere irretrievable (like in the sea or off a cliff), it makes it so much easier and more accessible when constantly using it for photos and navigation. I couldn't survive with it on my last few Disney trips and wouldn't go without it again!

..... interesting 🤔 🤔 🤔...my life story as a child is in the library of Congress.... and it fits very logical till I became married.... but the Internet has made it very interesting on the four other women I would have married if Robert Frost had not shared his observation....all I know is that if I not joined the army in 1981.... I would have died 7 years ago this month...or such is the logical explanation

NPR Radio 📻 📻 📻 📻
I just so happened to read the neighbor newspaper and saw an article that NPR was in Yuma looking for my life story in December 2019.... how that is comfort my soul 🙏 🙏 my Joshua Tree story is recorded in the library of Congress and I don't have to worry about publishing my novel about being young in 1960s
Joshua Tree

Free piles in the massive neighborhood... just picked up two outdoor rocking chairs for the neighbors across the street... I once accesses an entire estate... well... I was tall enough to climb into the dumpster

Sleeping outside .. when my wife asks if I miss Oregon.. I say yes...but then.... You can only take so much Humboldt current on your ankles....and I have never slept outside in Oregon... here in Yuma November to May.... though doing the sleeping now as October has been cold❄️ ❄️ ❄️ in the mid 70s

2. Inception - have you ever watched a film that completely blows you away? Quite a few films have done this for me, but Inception is again the one that stands out the most. Films like this are especially good when you can still appreciate how much they impress you after multiple watches.
WOW 😮 😮 😳 😳... I wish we could meet for a cup of coffee over this movie... I consider myself a film student and need help with this movie... after reading wiki I am in the very small minority

Time Bandits is my mind blowing movie

Random/strange (I’m choosing to pick 3 things about me)

I can write in reverse in cursive, like Leonardo da Vinci

One of my favorite movies is strange, it’s called Drop Dead Fred. I love Phoebe Cates. There is a scene where she hugs herself as a little girl and I found that to be very therapeutic.

I am a very peaceful, non-confrontational person who loves to watch ice hockey.

Happy Thursday

I’m going to focus on women outside of my family today….

#1 - MY 2 NEIGHBORS - They are the wife in the 2 other houses on my street. We’ve known each other for 20 years and I’m very grateful for both of their friendships.

#2 - A LADY AT MY CHURCH - When we switched parishes, there were some people that were so welcoming and this lady was one of them. I look forward to seeing her every weekend. She’s a lovely lady.

#3 - MY GIRLFRIEND OF 52 YEARS - We’ve been friends since we were 2 years old. We don’t see each other that often, but when we do, it’s like no time has passed.

1. My paternal grandma -- She taught me right from wrong and how to behave like a lady.
2. My darling daughter, who helps me with the things I need as I am getting older.
3. The chaplain's wife (I can't remember her name), who gave me a Bible and encouraged me to read it, which made me realize that I was not saved although I thought I was. Her thoughtfulness gave me the courage to leave the false religion that I was involved in.

All of the ladies I routinely see on my various morning walk routes - I don't really know any of these women but we always greet each other in some friendly manner, we take notice when something changes (like use of a weighted vest), we may take a moment to remark about the positive turn in the weather, etc. It may seem silly to be grateful for such minor interactions with people I really don't know, but I feel like we're each other's cheerleaders...everyone starting out in pre-dawn hours to get in our steps. I think there's also some safety in having familiar faces looking out for you each morning.

Softball moms - Admittedly, this can all be pretty cliquish but it's nice when I have the moms around from our current team or previous teams where we really have bonded. We're currently in a blended team situation for the fall for showcase related purposes and I'm always so grateful when one of "My Moms" is in the mix.

School Nurses - All of the ones in my life (both mine and the kids) have always been women. I think they're often underappreciated but I know mine were huge in making sure I got out for treatment if I started having bronchial issues during the school day. I am eternally grateful for how DD19s were so dedicated to keeping her safe with her life threatening food allergies.

1. My mom, who is tough and strong, and has always been there when I needed her.
2. My Grammy and my grandma, who both taught me valuable life lessons in their own way.
3. My mother-in-law, who accepted me and treated me like one of her kids, and taught me through her example the kind of mother in-law that I want to be.

Evening all,

1. My grandma - on my mum's side. I spent a lot of time with her when I was younger and I think a lot of my favourite hobbies and pastimes have come from her which I'm grateful for. And I wish she was still around to enjoy then with now.

2. My work colleague - I have a lot of work colleagues I like and get on well with, but one in particular I'm grateful for as we get on so well and have a lot in common, despite our age difference. I can talk to her about anything and that really helps having someone to confide in.

3. My mum - for obvious reasons I'm sure, and she goes out of her way to help me out. Especially looking after my pets when I go away!
