Three Things...Gratitude Thread

3 things you're grateful for beginning with the letter V
1. Vacations
2. Veterans
3. Volunteering at my church for kids/youth program (Awana), in the church nursery, and on the worship team

I thought I'd have to "cheat" and "steal" an answer to come up with three. But after looking at the other answers, I am going to have to borrow vegetables as a bonus.

Good Monday Morning!

DH and I have never had off work for today, so it’s a normal Monday for us. But, when we do have a long weekend, I’m grateful for……

#1 - SLEEPING IN - Which is always enjoyable

#2 - GOING TO THE GYM - If I couldn’t make it to the gym over the weekend, then I can go on Monday.

#3 - CATCHING UP ON CHORES - It’s always a nice thing to have an extra day to catch up on all the endless chores to do around the house.

Vacations - an extra day that doesn’t cost you a vacation day

Long weekend to work on projects around the house

Doing something fun with your kids if they have the day off

As a general rule we don’t get the day off and neither do our kids they have school today and I have to work today normally the kids have school today because we have so many snow days so they don’t give them this day off back when I worked for corporate America I had to stay off I work for a small charity now I do not get this day off

Definitely an extra day off from school or work when either applied to me.

At times, a little quieter around town.

Sometimes also a special coupon or giveaway at a store like JC Penney used to on certain openings give out X $ off coupons to the first however many customers. It wasn't that hard to get one :)

3 day weekends...

Time to catch up on work. (I currently have 38 lab reports, 32 written assignments, and 48 quizzes to grade by next Monday.)

Time to do the things around the house that I put off because of work; I can get them done without feeling guilty and knowing that work stuff is piling up (Notice the list above- but the hardwood floors are washed...)

A chance to run away from real life. (DH, DD, SIL, and I just came back from 2 nights in the White Mountains as my nephew was married at a ski resort in Henniker, NH on Friday evening.)

Afternoon all,

Love a long weekend!

1. Catching up on chores & appointments - I work condensed hours, working a 9 day fortnight so I get a long weekend every other week. It's the best thing I've ever done as it means I can get all my boring stuff like chores and appointments done in my extra day off, instead of the normal weekend or after work. Makes me feel so much better.

2. More 'me' time - thanks to having an extra day to do the chores & appointments, I get more time to spend how i want it - usually relaxing or catching up on things I've been meaning to do for a while!

3. Not being at work - having an extra day off and just not having to be at work is always appreciated!

Really wishing this were a long weekend for me! I got back from Waco last night, work has been horrific and I am so tired!

1. One more day where I can get in an above average length morning walk.
2. A day to do some cleaning. I'm not a neat freak and have found that most people in our circles are the same, but an extra day gives me that time to do a few extra things that haven't had attention in a while.
3. An extra day of not rushing and stressing like I normally am on a regular week.

Today in 1922 saw New York City's first automatic telephones:

...inspiring Today's Topic (Tues, 10/14) - 3 things you're grateful for about your phone

To have a phone period and especially and all the extra here is such a blessing. Not every resident does have their own phone. Those who are able to use a phone, I believe, miss the connection and resources a call can make.

Talking to my Dad several times daily is beyond a grace.

Being able to type this post on my phone right now brings me cheer, too :)

Being able to talk to my friend over in the United Kingdom every day anytime I want to I remember back in the day when you didn’t get to talk long distances it was such a luxury and you rarely ever got to do it and you had to keep it short and quick That’s just not the case anymore and it’s so wonderful

Having an encyclopedia at your fingertips anytime you want it absolutely awesome

Shopping for anything anytime you want that’s nice but it’s also dangerous🤣🤣

Happy Tuesday!

#1 - FACETIME - This has been the best for the last 3 1/2 years since my DD22 moved 2 1/2 hours away for school. We talk every day, and use FaceTime probably 50% of the time. Seeing her beautiful face makes any day brighter for me.

#2 - NAVIGATION - I used to use a Garmin a long time ago and my phone is so much better, since it updates all the time. I’d never leave my town without navigation - LOL!

#3 - INFORMATION - I’m constantly googling information. Knowledge is power

#4 - BONUS - TEXTING - How did we function without this? LOL! Seriously, I love that my family can contact me anytime through texting. It truly is a wonderful thing.

I think for many of us, this is going to be tales of why we're grateful for smart phones! I agree with everything said so far, so I'm going to try and think of some others...

1. Camera - As much as I love using my big camera, the convenience of having an onboard camera is tremendous. I could probably list 50 pros of having it right here and barely scratch the surface of usefulness.

2. Tickets/Passes - Whether it's digital tickets to a game or your airline boarding pass, it's so convenient to have these things on your phone.

3. Tracking Apps/Devices - I know some people find this intrusive but as a parent, especially when the kids were young and biking to school while I had to go into the office, these apps are peace of mind. In more recent years, tethering AirTags to my phone has been highly beneficial.

I don't have a cell phone, so I guess I am grateful for not having a monthly bill for service and a $600 device that will need to be replaced every few years, for not having constant interruptions from work, for needing to print out maps so I can see where I am going rather than just wait to turn corners when the nameless, faceless voice says to? I don't mean to be snarky- but these are all reasons I DON'T have a cell phone.
[ETA... IN all fairness, my job pays for a flip phone for me, but it never leaves work. DH likes me to take it along when I am traveling solo, in the event of an emergency, but so far I've managed to do without.]

Evening all,

What am I not grateful for when it comes to my phone?? Mine is probably a very long list of every feature:

Internet browsing & shopping
Maps & navigation
Spotify
Fitness & diet tracking
To do list app for my shopping & tasks
Reminders
Notes app

It's very sad but I genuinely don't think I'd function without my phone any more 🤔
