Three Things...Gratitude Thread

TGIF Friends

Not to be a Debbie Downer…..I’m definitely not grateful for the summer solstice today, because today is the longest day of the year, which means every day after will be less daylight from now on - boooo!!

I do love summer though - it’s my favorite season of the year

#1 - No Coats - I’m grateful to have about 3 months that I don’t have to wear a coat.

#2 - Pool Days - I haven’t had any pulled days yet because the water has been too chilly, and the weather hasn’t been great either. It’s gonna feel like 100° outside this weekend so I’m looking forward to finally getting into the pool.

#3 - My Birkenstock - 95% of my summer footwear up Birkenstocks and I am very grateful for them. I buy a new pair every year. I also wear a pair year-round inside the house. They are my favorite shoe.

Cheerful Curtis here 😊 😁 😊 YEAHS the days are going to be shorter here which means less sunlight pouring through our Western windows...oh how I love winter ❄️ 💞 ❄️ 💞 ❄️ 💞

Happy Friday, friends :)

Longer days and warmer weather. A freshness of brighter times ahead. By God's amazing grace, I continue to get stronger day by day.

Dad and I God willing, will have our new flooring installed at the end of July. That will get me closer to home.

Summer set books and movies can be a lot of fun and a way to vacation from home.

No Snow I was gonna say no ice but we keep getting hail so I can’t say that🤣🤣
Little less humidity would be nice but at least it’s not freezing cold I’m very grateful for air conditioning but that humidity does a number on my hair🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪

I agree with SLO after today we lose sunshine every day until the first day of winter I do find that rather sad ☹️ but I’m extremely grateful that when I get up it’s nice and sunny and it’s still sunny at 8:30 at night very grateful for that

All the beautiful flowers and the birds and all the little baby animals very grateful for that

Sitting outside at night hopefully with a cool breeze and a ton of mosquito repellent to enjoy the wildlife

Less traffic because school is out

Work seems less crazy more people take vacations in that way when you take yours in the fall everybody’s back at work and it’s easier to get time off👍

Less traffic because half of the 34 houses on our block are empty

Morning is cold here in Yuma 68 degrees with a high of 110

🐍 🐍🐍🐍🐍 Snakes.. neighbor has found 3 and I have been able to pick them up because they are motionless at 76 degrees.. skinny racer snakes...our gravel yard is so dog urine saturated.. one taste with their tongue..no way and they go to neighbor concrete driveway

I sleep outside after starting on the sofa and recliner.. I am growing a beard to keep the no-seeums and mosquito off my face and have a fan above my head

103 day I outside by 2:00...112 day 4:00.. but then that is just to hear our rodent doves

I’m probably one of the few who is grateful for the summer solstice today. I have trouble sleeping when it’s daylight outside, so this time of year I am always sleep deprived. I look forward to it getting dark around 7:30-8:00 pm and not getting daylight before 7:00 am. I dislike how hot it is in the summer and I really dislike hurricane season, so I will be grateful when both are gone and it’s nice weather again (and the smaller electric bills that go with it).

Summer is my favourite time of year!

1. Warmer weather - meaning no coats and love not having to put the heating on.

2. Lighter evenings & mornings - means more time to get out and go on walks before it goes dark. Also makes it easier to get up in the morning for work when it isn't pitch black. Although I do agree that it being a little darker would help with sleep - it'd certainly stop my cat from waking me up at 4am...

3. Summer clothing - love to wear summer dresses, sandals, tshirts and anything suitable for the summer months, without having to wear tights, jumpers and coats.

I don't think I knew about this, but I think I'll celebrate it next year!

And it's also:

Today's Topics - 3 summertime foods you're grateful for, or 3 things you're grateful for about Arizona

Happy Saturday Friends

#1 - Ice Cream - Specifically from a local ice cream shop that’s only open Memorial Day - Labor Day

#2 - Shish Kebabs - I just made some awesome ones on Thursday. I only make these during the summer

#3 - Slushies - I love a good cold slushie on a hot day

party: Today is both my sister's and my brother's birthday, although they are not twins. My sister used to joke about what Mom and Dad gave her for her 5th birthday present (and could she exchange it, hahaha)! We aren't in touch with my brother anymore (he removed us all from his life over politics) but I will drive to my sister's today to take her out for dinner to celebrate turning 65!

Summer foods..

S'mores. They make the surface of my teeth hurt and they are unsufferably sweet, but they are the quintessential "summer memory" food for me. I am good for about 2 bites, but the memories of Girl Scout Camp (both as a camper and a counselor), cook outs with family, bonfires with friends last much, much longer.

Tomatoes: For about 3 blissful weeks in late July and into August, we can buy native-grown garden tomatoes at the farmer's markets in the area. These are NOTHING like the small, pinkish-reddish orbs the grocery stores unashamedly sell. These are the tomatoes to use for caprese, for grilling, for tomato salad, fried tomatoes, or my all-time favorite, the sliced tomato sandwich on white bread with mayo, salt, and pepper.

Native strawberries, either from stands and farmer's markets, or pick-your-own. They are only available in late June-early July... IT'S ALMOST TIME!!

Slushy drinks they don’t have to be alcoholic just slushy drinks it’s just nice to sit outside at night with a nice cold slushy drink

Ice cream - banana splits come to mine something about those say summer to me
Soft serve ice cream 🍦

Summer Desserts All those nice chilled summer desserts all those parfaits everything that you make with Cool Whip and pudding

Bar B Q - although I do it year round I do it the most in the summer - grilling - cooking outside so you don’t heat up the house 🏠 love bar b q and to me that says Summer

Home grown Tomatoes 🍅 something I wish we could get year round there is nothing better than a homegrown tomato 🍅❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I myself just love the tomato sandwich 🥪 no I’m not saying a BLT although I do love those I’m saying just a tomato sandwich

Big hug dear Lee with love and good morning to you and everyone :)

Lol, I eat the same thing daily no matter the weather. Some staples definitely are extra appreciated in warm weather.

Cool water is extra thirst quenching on a hot day.

Dad enjoys ice cream extra while a chilled Snack Pack brand vanilla pudding cup is sure tasty to me.

Memories of church campers especially who loved Otter Pops particularly the blue ones.

Walking to the convenience store for Slush Puppies when I was a kid... and then getting to relive it by taking DS and his friends when they were little. (And I agree, @flyingdumbo127, the blue was the best!)

Another vote for in-season produce! - I love fresh strawberries, home-grown tomatoes, corn-on-the-cob, and going blueberry picking!

And definitely going out for ice cream!! There's just something about seasonal ice cream stands that's not the same as buying a carton at the grocery store.

I agree with ice cream and specifically ice cream novelties and popsicles. Nothing says summer to me like an ice cream bar or a bomb pop.

Fruit pies, made from fresh, in season fruit (and usually a la mode)

Anything cooked on the grill

So what I am going to task is to share with you folks why you should appreciate Arizona and encourage you to read to find Disneyland Arizona history

CADILLAC RANGE..DCA
Bullhead City Northern range is the geological feature similar and oatman has a geological feature exactly like a vintage Cadillac tail cone... separate from the mountain range

ROUTE 66 is the inspiration for Raditor springs/🚗 🚗 🚗 CARS though needles is in California but is a living ghost town of route 66

LONDON BRIDGE is in Arizona and one time a thriving little England tourist trap

WATER

There are no commuties in California that facilitate dams between Hoover dam and Mexico... Arizona communities care for the dams

SALADS???... for Christmas???
Yuma is recognized as the world salad bowl.. though Florida and California also grow salads.... just that Yuma has no frost

Yuma is the best US city to live in for November 1 to April 1.. sunniest place on earth and winter housing is cheap and modern medical services and 3 major roads to Metro Yuma and recreational activities within minutes from your front door

Arizona is responsible for the oldest attraction at Disneyland... large chunk of petrified wood in frontier land...far older than the Dominguez palm
