We have never been to DCA, just Disneyland. WDW many times. If your kids are older (18-22) would they prefer 2 days at DCA/1 Day Disneyland or vice versa? I'm trying to book dining ressies and since we're in peak early August, they're going fast...we don't have park hoppers, just 3 day passes.

Also we get one EMH day, but the way I have us going now, we can't use it because of the days, is it worth it or are those parks more crowded on EMH days? Right now I have us August 2-Disneyland August 3-DCA and August 4-Disneyland (the 4th is a Friday)

What would you do?

How many TS meals are you thinking of doing? If possible I'd forgo one and get hoppers.

Day 1 Disneyland Day 2 Knott's Berry Farm Day 3 DCA Go to 1 and 3 on off Emh and MMs......

park hoppers are SO worth it!

I've already bought our tickets, is there a way to add park hopper to one of our three days? We're Disney nuts, I'd like Knotts Berry Farms, but no way I could talk the kids away from Disney.

Lol. Just tell your children it's going to be over the top crazy at DL, so Knott's is the best choice for at least one day. Show them Knott's current shows at their ghost town. It's called ghost town alive, it's an interactive guest/cm experience. If they like splash mountain they will love Timber Mountain. I believe they will enjoy Calico Mine Train Ride too. I did. They also have a water slide park. And.....dining plans that are very cost effective, including free refills on soft drinks. They also have a wonderful museum. Oh and do dine at Mrs Knott's Chicken Restaurant. It's delicious!

You can upgrade the tickets to add the hopper, but they'll charge the same whether you do it on day 1 or day 3. You could make your must-do ADRS for the first 2 days, then if during day 2 you think you'll want to do a 2nd day at DCA cancel any day 3 reservations in DL. Maybe the kids will want to do DCA on Day 3 and you can just use the Day 3 ADRs in DL for 2 people.

Oh and yes you may upgrade your ticket to a park hopper.

It costs the same to upgrade to a hopper whether you do 1 day or more, so just upgrade at the start so you have the option on all your days (for the same price). The flexibility is great and it is so easy to hop!

chiming in to agree with everyone, park hopper is worth the extra money! I know I would do it just so i can have the cinnamon buns at California Adventure everyday alone, they aren't available on the Disneyland side

when was the last time you visited Disneyland?
Our kids were all under 4 :) now they are all under 22, so about 19 years...we lived about 10 hours from WDW so all our time was there, now we will be traveling more West Coast :)

....so basically it is your first visit.......at this moment in time, having never been to either park....can you tell me why you would park hop, and how would you make that decision to park hop at what hour in the day?

a WDW vet just wrote a report several days ago and said she would never purchase park hoppers, there is so much to do in each land for a first time visitor in one day, that there is no reason to hop.

with the single day tickets, on the third day, the teens can decide what gave them the greatest thrill RSR guardians and screamin or in Disneyland space mt, matterhorn, BTMRR. and then choose which area you want to spend the day.

the park hopping is easy , and it is a great option for a folks who have visited many times. I park hop, but I know when and why I am hopping...where as, on this july1 day, you have no idea why you need to hop.

The number one problem that WDW stressed a few days ago, is that indeed, RSR is very unpredictable, and it takes all day to ride several times. Plus there is shaboom, WOC and parade.....and each park at night is different than the daytime version. Walking behind GRR at night is a treat within itself. RSR at night is a life time experience.

And disneyland at night is different than day time....but if you are park hopping....how is all of that going to happen??

EMH at DCA has no advantage to those early folks, because the number of folks allowed is limited, whereas on Thursday, everyone has the chance to enter disneyland, but the MM is so limited, that it really does not crowd up and once the public is in, it emptys for a few hours.

The bottom line is that Wednesday morning in disneyland is better than MM thursday, wednesday morning will be best chunk of time on your trip. then on thursday you could enter Dca, struggle with the fastpass mess and at the end of the day decide where you want to be friday.
