Thread VS Post??

What exactly is the definition?

IMO, a Thread is something someone STARTS, a Post is a reply.

If I'm wrong, please correct me because, I have some questions about Threads being closed because a Post (or Posts) happened to be off-topic.

Thread is the whole shabang, a post is a response to it. The OP starts the thread. Sometimes just a post or 2 has to be go if its off topic to the original OP or gets nasty. Sometimes when the whole thread gets side tracked, the whole thing has to go. Hope this answers your question.

Um, No, this doesn't help.

I understand when the majority of the thread gets nasty but, if one or two posts are rude, I don't see the need for being locked.

I would have to see the post in question, Kim, but in theory, I agree with you. Its a shame when a good thread gets locked because one or two people are negative. It is possible to "split" a thread, deleting the nasty posts (or off topic, whatever the case may be) while leaving the thread intact.

I believe I said if its just a post or 2 thats nasty, they have to go, not lock the thread! Myself, i only lock a thread if it gets way off topic, (rule on the DB) and only then if its run its course and is turning bad, Some times mods know by the opening post that its going to be "one of those" threads that ALWAYS gets nasty, so we keep an eye on it and get rid of it before it does become a problem. But normally if its just a post or 2 of personal attacks etc, I delete them and keep the topic open, but I can't speak for other mods and what they do on the boards they moderate. I will recycle a whole thread if the OP starts a thread that doesn't meet the guidelines for the Dis, or move it to the appropriate board if its not a topic that should be on the board it was posted on. I hope this explains things better for you.
